instead of watching you need to play it, feel it, live in the world and explore, mingle with people, kill monsters etc. its not an instant gratification thing and you need to invest time, but its a good payoff.

Yeah, with these kind of games you really need to let the world and atmosphere sink in. It does take some time. With the Witcher it's actually kinda different, because while the exploration is fun and all, the world is really just a huge, detailed background for the story (or rather stories). It exists to make it all believable - and it succeeds at that, to the point of making me move around people on my horse, despite the fact that I know with absolute certainty that it doesn't really matter whether I bump into them or not
That doesn't mean the game is all about cutscenes. There aren't that many, actually. Conversations can sometimes be quite long, but you take an active part in these and your choices really do matter a great deal.
So, in short... The game is not about riding on a horse. It's about the fact that you're riding on it to find a missing girl, who escaped her abusive father, while not really being sure whether you do want to find her at all. Or to kill a beast terrorizing the neighborhood, only to find that it's really not a beast at all. Or to lift a curse from an island through learning of its gruesome history... And so on and on. Imagine tens of short, interactive dark fantasy stories set in a beautifully rendered, believable chunk of terrain and rolled into one game. Then intersect these stories and make them affect the world, one another and you - both the protagonist and the player (through emotional impact). That's, more or less what The Witcher 3 is.

heard about people saying how normal is too easy, so i started hard and even that isnt really hard but not too easy, so i m happy with the choice.

I read that too but I am also on normal difficulty. It can be changed at any point in the game though.
The only major enemy I have been unable to defeat so far was a gargoyle partway through the elven ruins when travelling with Keira Metz. I was only level 5 but that fucker killed me in 2 hits! In the end I gave up. It was obviously an optional route and I'm sure he was probably guarding something special so I intend to return at some point and kick it's ass lol. I love the seamless transition and zero loading times between vast underground areas and caves. The game is a technical marvel.
May the NFOrce be with you always.

Yikes. It's not like money is so rare, or items even. I mean what are people spending it on? Repairs?
And yes the Blood & Bones difficulty is a bit schizophrenic. One minute you are churning through folks like a hot blade through butter, and then I get wrecked by some level 6 drowners.

yep, but normal is just too easy, i can imagine all the complaints about shallow combat system come from people mashing their way to victory on normal. on hard you definitely need better tactics and combat has alot more depth.

appeal of gta is different though, many play it so they can go on a full rampage and wreak havoc, something you cant do in witcher 3.
the freedom given is more subtle and encompassing compared to gta.

Well, different tastes. I know HD loved W_D, which was a completely uninspired piece of shit to me. Same for KZ4, I got utterly bored barely a quarter in and only finished it because I felt I had to, but HD thought it was hugely underrated by many if I remember right. I also don't get what people see in Gears of War, as that's the epitomy of boring to me. Where HD says what he saw seems like "cut scene or horse riding", that's what I experienced with every single KZ and GeoW game, or CoD nowadays for that matter. Those games are all built out of "follow marker/ally, assault/defend for 5 minutes, rinse & repeat". Even if that was the case for The Witcher, at least the environments are infinitely more inspired tbh

same here Werelds, though i do admit i liked the souls ripoff invasion multiplayer mechanic in doge and i had fun with the gow2 campaign in coop.
witcher 3, imo, blows away everything i ve played in years, on many levels.

You are correct sir, but I was going to say the overal structure is comparable to GTA if he liked that one.

I never even tried the MP aspect of W_D, it annoyed me long before I even considered that. If a game like that has such clunky controls and such terrible car handling, that's 50% of the gameplay ruined already. And as a bonus it ran and looked worse than GTA4, which is quite a feat in its own right
Haven't started playing this one properly yet, but I'm quite confident about its gameplay. It didn't feel entirely smooth in the ~45 minutes that I spent dicking around, but hopefully patches will fix that by the time I start playing.

do yourself a favour and play on hard at least (blood and broken boner), as normal is so easy that it just turns the combat into a masher instead of the tactical and fun system it actually is.

I would also like to play on a harder difficulty setting but I play all games on normal simply due to how little time I have and how many I have yet to play! Normal seems sufficient for me. Ive died a number of times when outnumbered but surely its just a case of ensuring you have the best armour and weapons available?

Without spoiling anything, is it possible to go on all remaining sidequests after finishing the main story ?? Aren't some sidequests only available in some chapters of the game ?
