Yeah, forgot to mention. I don't play with Quen. That was like plain cheating in TW2, and it's very close to cheating here as well Very Happy

Maybe this will be an exception, cause fuck Nekkers.

Quen has been *seriously* gimped compared to TW2, here it's a near necessity for some fights, especially against hard-hitting enemies *and* against swarms of Nekkers. As for how to handle Nekkers better? Fast attack Razz I know you're trying to make the game harder, but you can't deliberately negate TWO of its primary gameplay styles and then complain that you're getting reamed by faster monsters like Nekkers grinhurt

The controls are shit, but it does work. Are you having issues diving/surfacing?

It seems fine here, just slightly cumbersome.. as I guess it's meant to be considering you're moving in water. It took a while to get used to diving but it seems okay after a while.

@Radicalus

As Sabin says, I wouldn't discount Quen. It's almost a necessity with fast mobs I find. It has also been nerfed a lot from TW2.

and the Nekker's reply would be:
 Spoiler:

as well as his brother and the 65 cousins he has in the neighborhood Smile

One sort of weird thing I've found is, I sort of like the Calvary combat it's similar
to BNZing in WWII aircraft gain speed "dive" towards the enemy , quick snapshot,
zoom away they've it seems to me have implemented the horse adds "power"
to the blow... at level 5 in the wrong area ran into lvl 13 bandits .. took a few passes
but I left them in bloody chunks ... Smile

ps: also works well on the afore mentioned Nekkers

edited for typos

For me I do the finger olympics; hold shift (faster swimming), W (moving forward ), space (surfacing) and then also angle the mouse towards the surface of the water. Geralts seems to rise fairly quickly like that Smile

Also, has anyone else just completely ignored the horse? I used it for a bit at the start, but for the last 3x+ hours I've basically just ran to my locations, unless they were on the opposite side of the world where I used fast-travel.

I'm playing on hardest difficulty, finished first zone. Velen area now. I can easily dispatch anything and everything. Except Nekkers. I haven't been able to clear a single mob of them (they come in 6+ numbers). They just leave me no time to do anything. They attack so fast. Not even with Yrden. What the fuck?

I decided to go heavy attack focused, that seemed most challenging.

How do you guys kill them?

I'm playing on the 3rd difficulty (which I guess is the "hard" mode), I fight Nekkers and Drowners in groups by separating individuals and focusing them down. If you go at one quite aggressively it's quite easy to separate them from the pack.

Keeping Quen up when fighting groups of Nekkers and Drowners is really useful for when they manage to get a sneaky swipe in.

Yup! Breaking the group and luring in one monster at a time is my strategy too, it has worked well so far. In the worst case scenario I just do the emergency rolling (since I never ever use it, unless I need to - am a big fan of dodging instead).
Haven't used Quen either (yet), I'm basically trying to play the game like I would play Dark Souls Razz

A minute of loading time, absolutely terrible, right?? Reaction Are You Serious

This is one of the shortest loading games I've ever played, hands down. And after loading it only stutters 1-2 secs to load everything and then it's smooth as hell on High settings, that's a charm. Not even SSD.

------------

Started using Quen now, Drowners are now easy meat, before they were quite the annoyance in groups. Level 12 now and inventory is getting taken up since I wanna preserve armour. Any weight mod that lets you set it at like 300-400 to carry around?

1m+ for every single loading screen (which, despite CDPR's claims, are many) not to mention loading screens in conversation cutscenes. Yes, terrible. Though I did, for an instant, forget that this is CDPR and no criticism or complaints are allowed Laughing

Yes, sirs. I'm sorry, sirs. Begging your pardon, sirs. Won't happen again, sirs.

Was it like that from the beginning of the game or did it got worse when you changed to a new area? I'm exploring the first area on foot, collecting herbs and fighting some monsters, so far the loadings only last 10s tops. 5s for a quickload after death.

Also, cleared the abandoned altar and that was... quite jarring. Cutscene, suddenly it's daytime (killed the ghouls at night), a few folks rollover and start praying, 90 experience and BAM!, that's it.
I was expecting them to slowly start to populate it after a few hours but ... ok, I guess.

It's gotten steadily worse as the game went on, at the start they were whippet quick but now they've slowed down to where it's a genuine annoyance. Also get slower the longer I play in one session ... which is a lot.. because... well.. the game is fucking awesome grinhurt

I use it if the destination is more than 300 steps away or so, but i walk/run most of the time also.

I guess im gonna need some swimming lessons. Smile

Oh and btw, the Thunderstorms feel great in this game. Just had one where the sun was shining through a hole in the cloudlayer, looked totally badass.

I mainly chose heavy style to make sure that my dodges and timings are spot on. Took a while, but I managed to do that. Still use fast style to close the gap, and strike an enemy fast, but I follow up with heavies.

Game is harder than TW2, but also a lot fairer.

Holy crap Novigrad. I looted everything in the game that i could find till now and was planning to loot this complete city but i took 2 hours over maybe 10 percent and i give up on this..... the fuck.

So many card players took me almost an extra 2 hours.

Quests are a little bit meh around here till now and tbh i can't wait till i can get out of the city.

A very interesting fix for the crappy stuttering some people are having, fixing the framepacing using RTSS and borderless fullscreen Smile

~edit~

No more horrid hitching/stuttering even when running <60, it feels so much smoother without any jankiness. Very nice. Loading times have improved immensely now that it's on SSD, I don't even see the loading circle during the menu>game initial load, by the time the comic/vid lets me hammer space to close it, the game has already faded in and loaded.

Only got one question, what about nvidia control panel vsync ? Should it be disabled for the witcher3.exe also or enabled with tripple buffering and only disable in game frame limiter and vsync ?

@sabin1981 Oh right because I defended the game to death earlier Laughing Laughing

Instead of fucking 5 minutes GTA V takes or more any other game takes, this game gets in 2 minutes at MAX (even less, thanks for not wasting my time!) and that's counting from starting the .exe till ingame on a HDD. At other times it's just like toni said, barely worth even having a loading icon.

I have nearly non-existent delay when triggering conversations, this whole nagging just sounds really picky. There's other things to criticize that are far worse. Some complaints sound like a spoiled child, seriously. But oh wait, we have to absolutely hate the game and the devs for the little things they do right even. Then again, you seem to enjoy it, so it can't be THAT worse.

@sabin1981

For some reason it's better here on my pc

It takes

~15+ seconds to load a save when I'm already in the game playing.

~15+ seconds to get back to White Orchid (?) from the huge "open world" area

~15-25 seconds to load a save from the main menu after you've started the game BUT it's not a "cold start" loading mind you.. I already played the game and quit it earlier and then started it again..

And another thing.. my sessions are shorter (max 4 hours per session then I take a break for various reasons) than yours I guess.

Mine are easily double to quadruple that and often it doesn't matter if the reload is from a minute prior (damn lv20 forktails! grinhurt), it can be just as slow. I don't know what's causing it, especially as they were super quick when I first started playing, perhaps it could be save game bloat? It happens in other openworld games.. though not always to every person.

Ah well, I'll deal, I'm just annoyed at it (and doubly annoyed at the constant "works fine for me!" bullshit, as if everything is a fucking competition and anyone saying negative comments needs to be set upon to teach them the error of their ways Rolling Eyes)

On HDD my DAI loading times were terrible, I moved it to SSD and they were less than a third of the time, absolutely no trouble at all.

Sabin, are you running this from some old hd? Game loads so fast for me on SSD.. its the epilogues that slow it down. What is really annoying is when zoning into the second map after just getting there, the speech is very short because there isn't much to say yet and you are stuck waiting for the movie to play out silently. But yea fast tracking in the same map? about 4 seconds to load and then another 4-5 for the slow fade out it always does.

so true

@sabin1981

I save A LOT in any game however I prefer to delete old saves to keep it under control size wise.... Atm W3 save folder is 220MB

I have it installed on 5400(!) green WD I use for storage(films and shit) Laughing so I'm actually really surprised that I get so short loading times. Generally it takes considerably longer in other games and , yes, DAI on HDD was a nightmare.
