Use the crossbow. Apparently it is cursed to only work properly underwater; while flying in air the bolts do fuckall damage, but underwater it's one hit kill like normal crossbows.
And I wouldn't buy the 70 kg saddle since:

Really? I wouldn't have even tried that as shooting enemies on land basically just tickles them a bit. Good to know that underwater it's an insta-kill, thanks for the advice. ^_^

Well in an ideal world, if the keeper was fit and female, Geralt would use his third sword to persuade a lower price.... in the game world I would like to have been able to use Axii...

There's blood on the ground, or did you mean some other effect besides the blood pool that comes out of corpses?
(And as of this patch should now also work for dead bodies in water.)
EDIT: Ah you must mean splashes of blood on the ground during combat.

oh god this new patch... game is defaulting to 60fps, low textures and reseting my hud changes every time i launch
