Been playing for about 1h and it's fricking great. Smile
It's quite hard though. I'm on my first mission to a cave behind a waterfall and the enemies in here is so tough that I have to use lots of herbs. And it's not because of lack of skill, they simple take so many hitpoints on me that I must. I'm now leveling up + buying a crapload of herbs to make things easier. This is nothing new though, DQ games have always had you leveling up just to beat normal enemies.
But I really dont mind though, I like a challenge.
Although, I heard that the boss in the cave was REALLY hard in the demo, and people had to level up ALOT to be able to beat him, if that is true in the final too, it might be alittle too much.
But we will see. Smile

This game is amazing, been playing for five hours straight now and it just becomes more and more captivating. You have to Level Up quite a bit though since enemies are fairly hard even in the beginning of the game, but i like a challenge so that´s just good. The Final Fantasy XII Demo was great too even tough it only was about 30 minutes long.

It´s only for Ps2 since Square-Enix doesn´t make games for Xbox.

Review on Gamespot:

http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/rpg/dragonwarrior8/review.html

9.0 / 10 -> old school RPG. Looks good. And they also say its a little on the "too hard" side Wink

No quest-log.
Dont rush through, do the quest when you get it, that's how it's ment to be anyway. Wink
It's not a quest-based game (like romancing saga for example), and I think that's why they didn't add a quest-log. Quest here and there is just a small bonus.

If you press the start button you can talk to your party, they will "remind" you of what to do next. Other than that, no questlog...

This is a great game and I'm really surprised of how good the voiceover and music is! And a lot of good humor too.

There are some things that annoy me with this game..
Why did it take sooo long before I got the world-map?! There are too few hints in the game also. I've made the thief-key but I still find chests I cannot open?
Battles could be a lot better. Why the hell is it so hard to gain MP?! Is resting in a INN the only way?

Yeah i knew that.. and thanks for the help btw, i got a quest off a guy to find his toolbox (near a tree or something) as you say.. i should do the quests as and when i get them

bit lost atm.. supposed to be finding some guy at a checkpoint.. been told to go south and thats it!! anyway its a great game and deserves to be bought imo

i agree with your comments about the music and humour.. both fantastic!!

Yes i did wonder about mana.. i rarely use it and keep it for when im nearly dead.. i assumed there would be mana potions to buy...... cant we rest outside of towns?

Nocturne is easier once you´ve killed that Matador boss and Transfigured strong demons.

Can someone answer me a question? (ive never played a DQ game b4)

Im doing the quest to get the girl out of the tower.. now i keep getting beat..
so im goin to lvl up a bit first..

is there any point in this? what i mean is.. Are the mobs that attack you suited to your lvl?

IE: if im lvl 7 then so will they be and if i lvl up to say 10.. then the same mobs i fought at lvl 7 will now be lvl 10?? hope that makes sense Laughing

@ Reg67:

Yes you makes sense Wink It does help to level up! Monsters will not automaticlly adjust to your level. But you will meet NEW stronger monsters. Same monsters will stay same level no matter witch level you're on.

Some of the monster names are funny, like:

One Knight Stand (a small knight on a hopping ball)
Mummy Boys (name of undead mummys)

a lot of good humor in this game.. I love the "Danceing Devils" - they start to dance and then your character starts to dance as well. hehe

Thanks, wasnt sure if it was like a normal RPG or had diff rules..

Damn but this game is so addictive.. cant really say why though Laughing

My one BIG gripe with it though.. why oh why do all the other chars look 'fairly' normal.. and my char looks like some sort of freak?
its a shame we cant modifiy the faces to get rid of the stupid huge eyes and daft haircuts..

so you would prefer full in-game voice acting, lets see, that would take around 7 years to develop the game, and it would span atleast 4-5 dvds.
I remember shenmue 1 wowed me back then, every single character u meet in the game had a voice, and u could talk about so many different things to so many characters.
well that was also the reason why the game, while having a really small world, needed 3 discs. i m very sure without the voices the game would easily fit on one disc only.
now, for a comparison, in shenmue 2 they used voices only in cutscenes and certain events, as a result the first 3 discs of it featured a world atleast 5 times the size of shenmue 1 - go figure...

bioware games dont have the size of a full nippon rpg like ff or dq.
imagine giving every shitty little npc in ff6 or 7 a voice, that d be a damn fucking lot of voice acting.
