IMO, both games are seriously unfinished, and what irks me the most is the absolute lack of any useful MP stuff.
If either game had proper ingame server browsing, better game set up options, proper dedi servers, and certainly not P2P like it is now, both games would be pretty epic in terms of what could be done. We could have a Hump racing league for example, if the servers were better.
Not saying it couldn't be done now, but it's very clunky. I'm not even a MP kinda person, but even I can see the potential of a proper racing game like these, with some solid MP stuff.
Pcars' server even has a web api which is updated in real time, it would be trivial to knock up a website which used this data to run a league almost autonomously.
Oh well.

I have both. I found assetto corsa to be rather simplistic and the menus and game stability meh :/ Haven't played Assetto since 1.0.1 though, maybe it improved

I agree both feel unfinished to some degree, but AC feels like a tech demo at times. Some of the AC cars feel great and a bunch of them don't. Track selection is non-existent. Multiplayer is a complete mess. AI isn't very interesting. The redeeming thing about AC is the ffb (though I feel it unrealistic its very fun) and the fact it can be modded.
AC was a mistake to purchase for me, I was expecting a lot more out of it.
PCars on the other hand feels a lot better around the board to me, all the tracks are great, and all of the physics for the cars have their quirks but remain drivable.
Multiplayer is at least drop in/out and doesn't suffer from the server-setup-clusterfuck that is AC, could have used a lot more work still. Nascar 2003 this ain't.
Too bad PCars can't be modded, sigh.
So far I have around double the hours I put into AC and I'm having a blast regardless of track and car combination which is rare for me. Really hoping they fix the stupid autopit garbage and get the nascar flags working properly.
I need some help guys. i can drive one race/track, after that i get a loading screen and it crashes. i tryed different cars, tracks different everything! disabled steam overlay etc. (legal steam copy)
Did you get it with release or were you one of the backers? Deleting your pcars profile works sometimes wonders ^_^
This might help, had to do it a few times with the leaked version. When I bought it I made sure there was no older profile still there because of how much it messed up before.

I can relate to that. I think that AC's main problem is mostly related to the low budget, and it really shows, since it all started with the work of one guy, and later got expanded into something more. As far as I know, the team struggled a lot with obtaining the licenses, and the scope of the game itself remained somewhat limited too which is a shame (few tracks, so-so AI, no weather conditions etc.). Those aspects will be likely fixed in a future AC2 though, or so they say.
PCars has many flaws too, but it's the game with the far better package so to speak, for me it's basically the driving game that I've always been looking for - well sort off: some cars could've received more care, but we can't have everything
Haha wow, that sounds really terrible..and that gif!
You basically have two games in one, PCars and Italian Traffic Simulator, how can you even you complain. The multiplayer was brought to you by Slightly Anarchic Studios xD
That's pretty much how the AI used to behave in some corners back in S2U
Particularly at Enna Pergusa - they would just stop in one of the chicanes and stay there, lost in the void of space and time
No, no, generally the AI is much superior to random humans in this game. If you're confused, a simple way to tell is the following checklist:
* AI can drive in direction of track.
* AI doesn't always attempt to t-bone you.
* AI is reasonably sure of braking zones.
* AI, while aggressive at times, does not tend to flip your car regularly.
* AI, while 'A', tends to show more 'I' than most human players.

I've been playing pCars since 2012 and the AI was never that terrible There were some times when the AI would drive very slowly, even on straights, but those were mostly during the SETA tire model change and when new tracks were added.
I wonder if they'll re-introduce multiple routes on the point-to-point tracks. Oh and more point-to-point tracks too

But then again - multi-car pileups on random servers usually are MUCH more violent and after getting hit or hitting someone... or both people still try to get back on the track and race... but usually just end up ramming someone again.
So for me that traffic jam on the gif is much too calm for a random online lobby.

I think it's the AI, I've seen it several times now.
They like to get stuck in tight corners.
Turns out the gif is from the second video. Its the AI.
That said, I'm fairly certain it's real players in multiplayer that fuck up more consistently :P

True dat.
So far I've only had ONE online session without any ramming. I was there with just ONE guy He was pretty good, at least he knew how to drive cleanly. He did spin a couple of times, but who can blame him - there was heavy rain at Monza and I bet his RUF was a handful. But at least he wasn't aiming at me while spinning or locking his brakes...
Ohh, I miss that guy...
And yea AC is so limited on tracks even though its a modding platform with a shitload of tracks already netcode works pretty well for me, ive been racing people, whats the problem??
This will always be a reason why we can't have nice things... eventho AC and Pcars caters to the same crowd albeit Pcars swings over some arcaders and console people to the dark side... you still feel the need to put one down over the other. Instead of enjoying both with their pro's and cons.
Gimme ac with great ai, more tracks and a fully fleshed out career mode and I'll pick that over pcars anyday. As it is though I play both almost equally since they both lack things the other has.
