I'm interested to see how well their AA method works. I read that they were developing it for consoles, but I assumed the PC version would just have regular FXAA.

Don't like it because it doesn't look or act like hair. And to me it is a lot of power for something that is not quite there yet. I'd rather go with that power used on other things.

At least AA turns out to be MSAA, you can only toggle on/off in the game options but you can adjust the MSAA level via ini edtiing.

MSAA? meh.. another performance hog...

I'll prolly turn it off and use reshade's SMAA instead

Actually, according to NVidia's guide the game only uses a post-process AA solution. The MSAA in the .ini file is probably just a legacy setting that has no effect.

At first I was worried if I can run the game on medium settings with decent fps, now I'm worried if my rig can run the game at all!

There seems to be a huge difference with NVidia's and PCGH's performance figures though. NVidia's tests seem to run about twice as fast as PCGH's, factoring in the resolution and hardware.

Injectable SMAA may be an alternative anti-aliasing technique for those seeking a lower-cost solution, though we failed to make it work in our development build. What did work was NVIDIA Control Panel FXAA, with in-game Sharpening enabled to counter added post-processing blur

Maybe there is still hope. . Laughing . I mean for making reshade's SMAA work with w3. Maybe someone will come up with something.. oh well.

I also prefer fxaa or something similar that has a smaller impact on performance. MSAA looks fantastic on images. In motion I don't really care that it's a bit blurried due to post processed aa.

I wouldn't even notice it in-game that much to be honest. Not only that but it's not taking into effect that it's raining which would make the hair not as fluffy and 'fliud' but more damp and 'heavy'.

That's a near 20fps difference between those. One looks good, the other looks like ass. Every stage below "Ultra" looks like ass, with 10m visible range and a completely barren landscape.

I think the biggest problem with FXAA and SMAA is that they don't do anything about temporal aliasing. So especially in motion you get creepy crawly pixelization that MSAA deals with much more effectively ( and SSAA/DSR even more effectively ).

Not really. Ultra vs High is hardly noticeable for the performance gain.

Yes really. You linked the comparison between grass density. Not foliage distance.

Performance: In the game's starting zone Foliage Visibility has a moderate performance cost. Once you hit the wide open landmasses with hill-top views, however, its cost rockets, instantly making it the most expensive setting in the entire game (with the exclusion of HairWorks in combat encounters).

High does have some distant foliage and trees but it's much reduced and still comes at a large performance hit. Medium loses even more and there's *nothing* on Low, but the difference in performance between Low and Ultra is nearly 20fps.

I'm sure you will get 60+ fps on 1080p without hairworks and foliage + grass density on high.
Unless you want ultra foliage.

How will this run on my 860m laptop? Mix of low and med?

I haven't gotten any new PC parts in 3 years. D:

Oh well I guess it's time to finally finish the first Witcher (I was near the end but my PC at the time died and I never picked it up again). Then move to the 2nd which I own but only played a bit of the intro after I swore I would finish the first one first.

Then build a new PC
