They are running out of books, so they have to. |
They're also running out of time (still planned to finish after S7) so they mix up stuff, compress storylines and repurpose characters. Sometimes its necessary, sometimes clever, sometimes it sucks though.
I wonder if there will be the Oldtown arc next season or if that dialogue was just a nod to the book readers and we'll never see it.
Stannis is becoming more sympathetic character lately, hope that doesnt mean he gets killed off soon. Same goes for Shireen. This is soon getting past where the books currently are.
They kinda mixed up Valyria with Chroyane I was not a fan of that and expected it to look quite different. At least they somehow managed to fit the Stonemen and now Jorah appears to get some parts of the culled Jon Connington character.
The Grey Worm romance is just annoying and a shame they already killed off Barri.

Haha indeed, I think the only explanation at this point is that they're just scared of Sam Tarly, the ferocious walker-slaughterer  
This was probably the episode that I enjoyed the most since the beginning of the season, the one with more variety at least, and potentially interesting future developments.
The family dinner with the Boltons was the highlight, they should make a dark sitcom out of that  |

The Queen mother, nor the Queen controls the Kingsguard now, don't be silly.  The only reason they don't do shit is because the King is a wuss. The only fail-safe installed I guess is if the King himself is threatened directly. They've only sworn to protect him.
As Queen regent, Cersei could control them with the power of a King though she has been stripped of that power now unless Tommen has delegated it specifically.
