@Nui He can't. And obviously he doesn't know about the downsized textures I've posted about with my Review copy pages ago either.

Everything is decided by proportions, IMO. I've never encountered a game that wouldn't look ugly from time to time - especially when it's utilising stuff like day/night cycle and dynamic weather, instead of hand-crafting every scene and stopping time to fit the mood (nuoBioware style) - that can change lighting drasticaly. When a game is beautiful 9/10 and suffers a few ugly scenes, it's hard (and rather unjust, tbh, but maybe that's just me) to treat those single scenes as a benchmark of overall quality. Doesn't mean they shouldn't be mentioned, of course. And yeah, water seems to be better now. One thing I can say, however: I definitely dislike the piss fliter they employed. Can't see a good reason for that, I'd prefer a more realistic color palette.
Also, the PS4 live (as in: moving, video) footage looks pretty good too. For PS4, of course, but still - it's certainly not bad.
On another note: I like how they approached 'open world' in a different kind of way. Basicly, it's like the scale is different than in games like Skyrim of Fallout. They're not trying to pass a few square miles as a whole kingdom in a sort of a scaled bubble - instead, they're trying to believably (or at least more believably - since the scale is obviously still not 1:1) recreate a certain part of it. That seems to be the main reason for the huge terrain - it's not meant as an entertainment park full of stuff behind every corner. More like it's just there for the world to feel real. I guess it might be a problem for some of the TES fans (as some reviews point out), but I really like that, it reminds me of Gothics.

The original script is polish, so the rest gets a translation. That alone will make me try the polish audio if I can. |
Funnily enough - they've stated somewhere, long time ago, that the game is written in Polish with English voices in mind - and translated to English and other languages afterwards. English voiceovers are recorded first, then Polish ones are "based" on them. Still, Witcher books being Polish and based on our culture/myths, references are more likely to be caught by Polish people.
As far as I remember, it was the same with W2.

This I absolutely agree with completely. My only complaints so far have been about the downgrade and it's not because the game now looks ugly, because it doesn't, it's simply in comparison to what they sold us on originally.. but that's it. As for the gameplay itself? The world construction? The design and scope? YES PLEASE. That has looked and sounded amazing from the start and it's certainly not changing now, I cannot wait until I'm able to play and really sink into it, just like W1 and W2.
@Nui
It was just easier to add to my existing post rather than making another one and annoying Bob <3

It won't work because people just love quoting him for some reason |
I actually noticed he's getting less and less quoted. Almost like in the past week even more people put him on ignore! Good times!

Nah, I think it's literally just the sharpening filter that was present in the earlier footage/screenshots (and also in TW2).
|
That makes sense. Also I forgot about that option being in TW2 now that you mention it.

Main thing here is the writing. As long as it's written in Polish first, it'll remain superior to other versions - wheter voice-overs are recorded later isn't that important. It's hard to explain, but in every previous Witcher game there were subtelties, jokes, lines, that just couldn't be carried 100% into the English version. Especially for fans of Sapkowski's books. The spirit, soul of the Witcher world/prose - it's just there, in the game somehow. And, of course, the already mentioned cultural references.
If you like writing in the Witcher games, you can easily add another 20% of quality to it if you know the native language.
@ Sabin Agreed completely. I'm not denying anything either - the game doesn't look as good as it did a year ago and it's certainly nowhere near the launch trailer - that's completely beyond reach. But I can't wait to get my hands on it too - even though I'm actually gonna be playing the PS4 version this time around, being the poor peasant that I am right now (buying a new PC turned out to be a bit too expensive for the time being, considering other expenses).
@ Mister_s That's true, this generation has been behind since the moment it started and it certainly started showing very fast. To be honest though... on consoles, it's really not that big of an issue. I've been playing InFamous: Second Son recently, and the game looks really gorgeous on the PS4. Like, really. Top of the line as far as city-sandbox games go, topped by PC version of GTA V, but not much else. Multiplatform DA:I looks stunning too. It's PC that'll suffer most because of current gen consoles' weakness, sadly - once again, it'll never be able to spread wings freely. At the very least, incoming dx12 should give the PC a solid performance boost, so bad optimisation won't be that frequent an issue.
