|
 |
So a few days ago I stumbled upon a deal that was too good to be true, an R9 290X for about 200 euro. Naturally I jumped right on it without even batting an eye and I ordered it and got it swiftly thereafter.
Now, there's a slight issue, there's some coil whine, not too irritating mind you, but it is still present, and I'm wondering if anyone has had any succeses in rooting out the coil whine.
Right now I'm using MSI Kombustor/Furmark to force out the coil whine while I'm asleep/not using the computer, hoping that it'll eventually burn out. There seems to be far better ways that doesn't torture the GPU as much though, such as idling in the Crysis main menu.
So does anyone have any methods to share? If I don't get rid of the whine I'm probably gonna ask the seller to send me a replacement.

The only solution is to fill coils with compound. Torturing the card may only change the tone.

That's an option should the Crysis 2500 FPS treatment fail, I don't think they have the R9 290X I bought in stock though, and I'd possibly get a 200 euro generic card if I return it.

Can't you go through the 3rd party seller or AMD directly?
If I have the option I never go through the shop, way too much hassle and uninformed people to deal with that usually ends up in the same way: product gets shipped to the manufacturer.
