The amount of pop-in is still laughable. Clothes, people, textures, foliage. lol. Pathetic.

this is a series staple. i've recently beaten both black flag and rogue, and noticed character pop in, in both. They even have that animus twinkle when they pop in so it almost seems like its a feature Aww Yeah

So should I give a try to this game again after all the patches ? Is there still all the stuttering which made the game unplayable when it was released ?

I finished the last chapters yesterday, decided to wait until they had patched it up better and it's been something like three months now without any further updates so it's probably as good as it gets, still doesn't perform all that well on AMD GPU's but the patches have helped though there's a bit of pop-in now and the LOD for distant buildings might have been affected a bit too, averaged around 30 - 35 FPS most of the time (Max settings, 2560x1600 res and SMAA injected via ReShade over MSAA which caused a drastic performance hit even at only 2x and also caused visual artifacts.), performance is a bit better in interiors and of course less busy areas.
(Worst was the scene on the market square with several hundred NPC's around and of course some of the cutscenes with bokeh dof and other advanced shader effects, skin can look a bit waxy at times and hair occasionally looks like wire but other than that it's a really good looking game minus all the aliasing, TXAA would probably help if you can handle the additional blur it introduces and of course NV DSR if you don't like your GPU anymore and want to torture it, this game must be quite taxing at 4K on both GPU usage and VRAM usage.)

Speaking of LOD, is there any fix for the ugly low-res textures you see like... 50m away?

I decided to give the game another spin, hoping for improved performance and some nice walks in Paris.

How to play solo co-op missions? I don't have the option "Play in private", when in game.

Nvm, found it. Went offline. Embarassed

You can play in private when online as well, I think you have to open up the map and then hover over the mission's icon and then you can play in private.

Comme ci, comme ça.

Drops to ~45-47 FPS in some crowded/demanding areas. With FXAA, all Ultra and +HBAO. But it's a CPU issue/limitation, as GPU usage doesn't go much above 60-80%.

It's clearly still unoptimized and by the looks of it, things won't change. It's a shame, really, I like the game.

EDIT

Went to check some things on the forums and... surprise!

30-35fps with an i7. Bear in mind that Ultra has MSAAx4, you can enable MFAA and set MSAA to 2x and have 45-50fps.

So, started playing this on a gtx 660, which is below min requirements. Laughing

textures on high, environment very high, shadows high, hbao+, and the game runs ok on 1680x1050. Going to ultra textures caused 5 second long freezes every 5 minutes as the vram flushing in theis game seems to be badly coded.

Weird, because afterburner reports even high textures using up the whole 2gb VRAM, but there's no stutter.

Overall, expected it to run worse, however the cutscenes do inexplicably lag. Even when you have nothing on screen except two children zoomed in, with nothing else to render, the cutscenes looked as if they ran at sub 20 fps Confused

Basically, free running through the city gives more fps than staring at a few heads in a cutscene...

Don't they patch this anymore? Have they given up on it? I'd really like to finish this to keep my AC combo chain going.

unless you are stubborn and expect 60 fps at maxxed settings with a 970 at 1080p or higher, the game is perfectly playable. Just have to deal with the fact its unoptimized or move on, nothing else to it.

i've only recent played this game, and it's incredible how Ubi, even when it has a good idea, manage to fuck it up so badly. The "change individual armor parts" thingie, and the ability to paint them is freaking awesome, but then you have set color combinations (that you have to unlock on top of everything else), and half the armors (including the coolest ones) are MP unlocks. Mind Is Full Of Fuck

They unlocked all armors quite a while ago in a patch, they're all unlocked in non-isodemo versions IIRC.

and if you use one of the saves made after that patch (at usual counter strike place) you can even unlock them in isodemo version aswell as nomad stuff integrated to main game (previously was exclusive to companion app which is now dead)

Anyone else had to deal with constant crashes in specific areas of the world (specifically near a "red area" northeast from Ile de la Cite, when approaching a viewpoint)? I have the RLD (+DLC) version which I then patched up to 1.5. using RLD patches, couldn't find a fix so far.

Just completed this last night. I know callofdutyzito is gonna come here, and say le baguette this, le baguette that, but I thought it was the best AC game since brotherhood. And certainly better than all them call of duties Cool Face

going from a gtx660 to a 7970 helped a lot with performance, especially in cutscenes that weren't slow motion anymore.

But the main thing that made it better was the gameplay. Finally you could die. The AI would use pistols a lot when you get crowded, so the "wait in line melee combat" against 300 people would not work that great. Especially early on, while you aren't upgraded yet.

The simple take on the hitmanesque disguise mechanic was a great addition (hope they expand on that even more), and the removal of the overpowered whistling as well. Now you actually could panther around. it's still quite rudimentary compared to hitman and splinter cell, but it's the best step towards stealthy gameplay they took in years.

I especially enjoyed the coop missions, as they were designed with more players in mind, so stealthing them with hud disabled was fun and challenging. That should be regular singe player difficulty, but that's the casual time we live in, where a 4 player mission is the most fun played solo Laughing

The city was also beautiful to explore, and the DLC was a nice and short, more story focused mission.
