|
 |
IS A FRICKING PAIN IN THE ASS!
It took 1,5 hour and we had to cut it short because other customers were piling on into the waiting area.
Apparently they have new procedures due to some terrorism scare. You'd think as a Belgian, an EU citizen you wouldn't get harassed as much, but darn everything is problematic here in Sweden (yup not just the bank).
I was being asked questions you would think the police or migration would ask. Too much to type here, but I'll give an example with one that really surprised me:
Are you Jewish are do you have any affinity with the Jewish community. Instead of saying: well I know this LeoSatan on a forum and he isn't really fond of Arabs because they shoot rockets over his head ( ). I went with: that is quite an odd question. Which he answered with: perhaps, but not in this world anymore. I was like:
He also said something like: "Well they want the bank to do the policing", so I joked: Well its not like you have any Police here compared to Belgium. Which he seemed a bit offended by because his response was a little jab back: "Maybe Belgium is more afraid"
I think I should try and open a bank account with my fiancee next time we are in Belgium and see if it got as ridiculous over there as well.

My sis in law opened a bank account 3 weeks ago. We downloaded the application form, filled it out and she handed it over personally (took 2 minutes). 1 week later she got her card and pin
And she is not EU citizen and is just studying here, so only with a limited residency visa

Mm... guess I made an oopsie and put it in world news. Pumpy or someone else could you be a dear and move it to the bitching section?
Btw:
The point when I wanted to deposit my Euros and Pounds to my new account was the fastest. Took about 5 minutes.

Yeah, how about trying it as a US citizen in Sweden, no bank wants to touch you because of the friggin' BAFTA and reporting requirements (yes, US government wants all the banks in the world to report any accounts americans have living abroad).
Any other country doing this to its citizens??

You're an enemy of the state Morphi xD
And I thought these bureaucratic maneuvers were easier up in the more civilized North.
Look on the bright side though, at least when you deposit money you're certain that you'll get it back. Here, not so much! (not that I have this problem to begin with)

Made a phonecall and got an appointment for the next day. The process took 15 minutes and the bank only required my polish ID, not even proof of adress. Got the card 6 days later and the pin 2 days after that. |
See now that is what I was expecting as an EU citizen. But Sweden has this thing where they are in the EU but act like they don't
