In conclusion: Cyberpunk was announced eight years ago, but development didn't really start until 2016. In 2018, they had little but a (mostly) fake demo. Most of the staff knew and openly said it wouldn't be ready for release in 2020. But management believed in CD Projekt Magic
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
“There were times when I would crunch up to 13 hours a day — a little bit over that was my record probably — and I would do five days a week working like that,” said Jakubiak, the former audio programmer, adding that he quit the company after getting married. “I have some friends who lost their families because of these sort of shenanigans.”
The overtime didn’t make development of the game any faster. At E3 in June 2019, CD Projekt announced that the game would come out on April 16, 2020. Fans were elated, but internally, some members of the team could only scratch their heads, wondering how they could possibly finish the game by then. One person said they thought the date was a joke. Based on the team’s progress, they expected the game to be ready in 2022. Developers created memes about the game getting delayed, making bets on when it would happen.
Quote:
Adrian Jakubiak, a former audio programmer for CD Projekt, said one of his colleagues asked during a meeting how the company thought it would be able to pull off a technically more challenging project in the same timeframe as The Witcher. “Someone answered: ‘We'll figure it out along the way,’” he said.
For years, CD Projekt had thrived on that mentality. But this time, the company wasn’t able to pull it off. “I knew it wasn't going to go well,” said Jakubiak. “I just didn't know how disastrous it would be.”
Part of the fans’ disappointment is proportional to the amount of time they spent waiting for the game. Although Cyberpunk was announced in 2012, the company was then still mainly focused on its last title and full development didn’t start until late 2016, employees said. That was when CD Projekt essentially hit the reset button, according to people familiar with the project.

Much of CD Projekt’s focus, according to several people who worked on Cyberpunk 2077, was on impressing the outside world. A slice of gameplay was showcased at E3, the industry’s main trade event, in 2018. It showed the main character embarking on a mission, giving players a grand tour of the seedy, crime-ridden Night City. Fans and journalists were wowed by Cyberpunk 2077’s ambition and scale. What they didn’t know was that the demo was almost entirely fake. CD Projekt hadn’t yet finalized and coded the underlying gameplay systems, which is why so many features, such as car ambushes, were missing from the final product. Developers said they felt like the demo was a waste of months that should have gone toward making the game.
Quote:
Studio head Adam Badowski took over as director, demanding overhauls to Cyberpunk’s gameplay and story. For the next year, everything was changing, including fundamental elements like the game-play perspective. Top staff who had worked on The Witcher 3 had strong opinions on how Cyberpunk should be made, which clashed with Badowski and lead to the eventual departure of several top developers.
And from the cut article details from the Twitter posts.

If you're wondering just how much Cyberpunk 2077 changed over the past decade: well, up until 2016, it was a third-person game. Features that were originally envisioned (wall-running, flying cars, car ambushes) were cut along the way (not atypical in game development)
Quote:
And if you're wondering why the police system in Cyberpunk 2077 is so janky: well, it was all done at the last minute. As is evident by the final product, it was unclear to some of the team why they were trying to make both an RPG and a GTA with a fraction of Rockstar's staff
EDIT: Ah I see the Bloomberg article was already posted above.
Not a single mention of CDPR's twansphobia in the article? Watch your back around REEEEEEsetera, "Jase"
And what do you know? In the end it seems that the game's release will really happen close to 2022

CDPR misrepresented the game, and old gen consoledudes got properly fucked over. But a disaster this game is not. And Jason is just playing up the hysteria to build his career - proper journo tempo. Jason is misrepresenting the situation just as much ... go suck a cock, you self-important asshole.
This game is a disaster and it's quite sad to see people defending it left and right. It was bad when Andromeda, Fallout 76 or Anthem were pulling this crap. But CDPR got in the equation and suddenly it's alright.
It's funny to see the statements from ex-developers dismantling that PR bs from two days ago.

Oh yes, the game is a disaster.
I loved it and played over 100 hours, but the more I played the more I realized it was a broken mess that a few updates won't fix.
(...) the vision evolved in this demo evolved to something that got multiple 9/10s and 10/10s on PC from many renown gaming outlets in the world."
Kurwa, just fuck off with that bullshit right now
That last point though... jesus the gaming industry seems to be filled with thin skinned faggots "ONOZ THEY'RE SPEAKING IN KURWASPEAK, MIGHT THEY BE MAKING FUN OF ME???? OMG I FEEL SO UNSAFE RIGHT NOW, BETTER REPORT IT TO HR "

Fundamentally, I feel discomfort over what seems to be... an underlying trend to be more harshly disposed toward reporting, exposing, and "holding accountable" non-anglophone studios.
While yeah, ABSOLUTELY hold a candle under the feet of malignant entities and speak up on bad practices, but we all seem to do so with a hell of a lot more righteousness when they're outside the english language sphere - particularly, it seems, if eastern european.
Compare how the press is banging now and how they were in the cases of R*, ND, Ubi issues.
Like - while there were plenty of articles and attention given to Ubisoft's bad actions, look at how the name "Ubisoft" doesn't have anywhere near the toxic connotations that CDPR does. As well all the "bad practices" articcles suddenly dissapeared the moment their games released
Ubishit was roasted for months after all the revelations, but ND's crunch efforts were all but swiped under the carpet... weird, right? *cof*TLOU2 *cof*.
Still, even with CDPR's fuckup I'd much rather have games from non-murican developers like them, 4A, GSG, Techland, Deck13, etc etc and Japan than most US led studios.

Ive seen people defending it with "it might be broken, but just wait and see - once fixed it will be an incredible game!" and defending the ps4 version with "what do you expect if you buy it on a last gen console".
There are quite a few who defends it with "ive not seen that bug, so im happy with the game!" too...and when you see all that are missing that should have been in an open game them say "you cant compare it to GTA, these are new with open world games" - as if thats a valid excuse.
I did the mistake of buying it myself, but ive only played the tutorial. I think ill wait 5-6 months before i continue on it.
Only "big" bug ive had is that for some reason i get the cops swarming over me at random times and at some point a nude guy spawned on the roof of my car.
Edit: Im no fan of witcher, i love its graphics but i cant get into it.
shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.
And i defending it with:
"I did not spend so many hours any other AAA game in the last two years."
Ah yes! That one too! But to turn a blindside at all the bugs just cos you have not experienced them yourself is really shoving your head into the sand

I just had a similar discussion with a guy on a Romanian forum. He posted 1 hour video saying he didn't had any bugs. I skipped through it a few times and I noticed: NPCs disappearing in traffic, NPCs getting stuck when they hear the first bullet shot, etc. These people won't notice the bugs even if they got hit with them in the face. They'd rather keep lying to themselves and defend this train wreck.
I had my fun with CP2077. It's nothing wrong with enjoying a bad or mediocre game, but this attitude is hurting everyone.

i think that pisses me off about the ame is they wasted so manz dev time on adding uselsess and halfassed openworld fluff. Thez should have made it semiopen hubs instead , would be overall better game without the openworld widowdressing
At launch I gave up because of all the bugs, but with 1.06 its actually playable imo (far from perfect, but yeah... playable)
Im level 38 now and found out iv done 153 jobs. And iv actually only bought one car, its kinda stupid how its both marked and considered as a job to buy cars. oh well
Iv played on both PC and PS4. Yarr PC version and legit PS4 version (early xmas gift, got it at launch).
The sad thing is that the PC version dips down to FPS lower than the PS4 version, and nope, I dont have a Pro.
Dont have to tell you guys how it looks on the PS4... some textures look like they are about to be loaded, but nope. All billboards and so on looks so bad, you can barely read anything. The only textures that looks better after beeing loaded properly are the characters that actually looks ok.
But you learn to live with it strangely enough. Kinda sad how much we people can adapt
When thats said, the reason I mentioned 153 jobs is that iv never had to restart a Main job, side job or a GIG because of some bug (only when I fuck up myself )
I mught have been lucky, but I wasnt really expecting that. Lots of annoying glitches that iv learned to ignore. And on one gig Johnnys voice and subtitle segment got stuck somehow and repeated itself over and over for some time, even after I fast traveled (usually fixes stuff like that, and overlays that gets stuck on screen) but this time it even happened after I restarted. After some time it went away by itself .
Bottom line under all the bugs, there is a pretty damn fantastic game. Good thing im good at ignoring what I consider relatively small stuff. Well, the PS4 game is not worth the money at all because of the low FPS during gun fights and driving and that it looks like a turd doesnt make things better Got the sign contract ending because I rushed it under 20 hours because I was sure I would get some gamebreaking shit like corrupted save or something, but well, I didnt
is that cunt of cd project red really hiding behind bribed 9/10 10/10 scores for his product from many renowned dorito king whores? ? ROFLOL we have a new TODDD on our hands
it wasnt in a release state and its employees should have been treated with more respect, fuck em, another publisher to add to the shitlist, make that shitpool by now
great u had fun with the game, at the expense of 500 people who had a miserable three + years ...
They'd rather keep lying to themselves and defend this train wreck.
It's not even intentional from their part.
Most people are absolute unaware / ignorant. Their quality values (standards) are low, their general culture knowledge is a joke and their capacity for (self-)analysis and critique is almost nonexistent.
They are just mindless consumers enjoying whatever they are fed.
