i hate cars, so that may be the reason i'm struggling to calculate.

lets say we have a car 10.000 euro -> 5.6 l/100 km
2'nd car, 15.000 euro -> 3.8 l/100 km.
1 l => 1.2 euro, so with 5000 euro -> ~4100 l.

nevermind power and other details, after how many km you can say that the 15.000 car is worth the price ?
i have like 5 different calculations every one with different results so if you can explain a bit, i would love to hear it.

thanks.

you do not even need to worry about it. You can either afford the 5k more or not. If it's just a mental torture problem where you worry about spending that much on a car then math is not the problem.

Sounds to me like you are on the edge of concern regarding paying for the fuel anyhow.

nope, the original talk was to get toyota corolla or hyundai i30, both custom configuration at around the same price ~17k. still debating this. budget is <20k.
that 3.8l/100km is a 1.33 motor 90 hp one, and i would not chose it anyway.

don't know how we manage to get to the discussion above, but is making me mad that i canot solve 100% for sure a simple math problem. i'm up to the next level, asking some coworkers, but is seems that i'm not the only one stuck with simple math Smile).

after more head beanging, we got this, and we are kinda puzzle by result. (5 people working on it.)

1' car with 5.6 l -> 100 km
2' car 3.8 l -> 100 km.

difference is 1.8 l.
so we need to repeat this process 4100/1.8 times, which is : 2277 times.
2277 * 100 -> 227777 km (was on of my results, but i deleted because seems like a way to big number.)

so basically when you drive for over 227.777 km, you end the payment for a low fuel motor which costed 5000 euro. unless we again fucked up something. :/

Both of those consumptions are fine just buy what you like. My car averages 8L/100km in the city and 4.8L/100km outside, I got used to it.

also count over 30% more visits to the gas station, which costs u real life time, any time u can save , is worth hard euros, as u can not buy time back but always make more money

guys forget about the car Smile)).
we will buy something which eats more than both of them. and cost more.

i was mad and still i am mad that i failed at basic logic and math, and we were in the end 5 people to reach the result. and for that we used a 4000 lines spreadsheet to reverse engineer the simple ( 4100/1.8 )*100, because noone was sure about the result.
and we are talking about people wit 14+ years background in it (myself) and 10+ years in programming. today was a sad day Smile

Well, the amortization of fuel costs is calculated per year and it's usually often within companies, i never heard an individual calculate this.

Also, amortization is calculated on diesel cars ( lower fuel consumption, sometimes cheaper, etc. ).

Question is, you want to find out when the car is worth the investment?
