 |
Summary:
By taking the suspense, challenge and visceral charge of the original, and adding startling new realism and responsiveness, Half-Life 2 opens the door to a world where the player's presence affects everything around him, from the physical environment to the behaviors even the emotions of both friends and enemies.
The player again picks up the crowbar of research scientist Gordon Freeman, who finds himself on an alien-infested Earth being picked to the bone, its resources depleted, its populace dwindling. Freeman is thrust into the unenviable role of rescuing the world from the wrong he unleashed back at Black Mesa. And a lot of people people he cares about are counting on him.
Half-Life 2 for the Xbox system defines a new benchmark in console gaming with startling realism and responsiveness. Powered by Source technology, Half-Life 2 for Xbox features the most sophisticated in-game characters ever witnessed, advanced AI, stunning graphics and physical gameplay.

1.5gb dl i couldnt resist. Although i bought this for pc i had to see just how well they converted it for xbox. All i got to say is xbox users wont be dissapointed the game looks amazing for an xbox game as perfect as you could want. Main differences ive noticed so far ive played up to kleiners lab. The glass effects where the image bends thru the glass isnt there although it is there in the magnifying glass in the lab. And there's one extra load screen after the gman talks at the beginning. Other than that it plays exactly like the pc version. Lower res textures of course but it seems they used some higher res textures in some parts and lower in others to get a balance and overall on a tv it looks impressive.
for a conversion id give it a 10/10 effort for valve this is an example that should be sent to all developers porting over from pc to xbox. Yet again valve displays its innovation and inginuity in tackling such a complex game that never ran pefect on a pc and runs near perfect on xbox. There is some slow down but with a game with so much complexity built into it thats to be expected.
As far as the game goes for those who havent played it dont compare it to halo, this games more of a movie experience than a straight out shooter. If i didnt own the pc version i would buy it in a heartbeat.

Yeah the boat gun does have a semi lockon.
Handy for getting rid of them pesky "dangly roof trap aliens"
Also like the roll the grenade option with the left trigger, great for taking out combine troops. Can’t remember that being in the PC version.
Seen loads more bloom fx throughout the water hazard levels.
Marvellous.
Had to resupply the fridge with beer, saving the world is thirsty work:)

I'd agree with everything everyones said so far I gave it a quick hour and a half playing through to the big red barn on the Water Hazard level just then and was very very impressed. As far as I could see its pretty much a 1:1 conversion in every respect but the graphics which are still great and clearly pushing the limits of the Xbox. To me the games just an incredible technical achievement and one of the best Xbox games this year.
I saw someone else on the other thread who probably hasn't even played the game critising it because like every console game it uses a controller instead of keyboard and mouse - Im the keyboard and mouses biggest fan and find the control in this like the majority of console FPS games very well done and easy to get the hang of.
Overall a stunning title.

yes...mostly after a area loading.
I put my PC screen aside with my TV and put the game on Low settings and its pretty much the same...Pretty cool if you consider that the Xbox is a Celeron 733

Yea im loving this game myself. And totally agree that this is an excellent example of a 'good port' imo. Never actually played this game, but watched my friend play it on his PC for hours before. Me being a console fan i never tested it myself on the PC but it does look pretty damn good on the Xbox thats for sure.
BTW, n00b question here.. wtf does " slow downs" mean in terms of a game anyways?

This port really is great indeed... Looks very nice thats true. Slow Downs mostly means that the framerate goes below 25fps and makes it seem a little slow.
@kommando
the xbox is NOT a 733MHz Celeron. It is a freak CPU that is something in between the PIII Copperhead and the Celeron. It has more cache then the Celeron but less then the copperhead.
On the other hand the upgraded version that you can buy that is 1.4GHz has a Celeron.
Behold his GLORY! Bow for the technical master!
