That donor's in for a world of pain. Or insanity. Or something not very pleasant. Perhaps he'll 'feel' phantom pain for his old body... for about 3 seconds before shitting himself and dying. |
Yes, there have been done decades ago. It all sounds like too much of "mad" science which I assume is the reason in more "civilized" times, no one dares to try them again.
Given that technology is wayyy more advanced nowadays, things might be different today (I doubt a complete success is possible just yet) but how the hell would you know and claim "trust me it works" if you don't try it first on animals. And try again and again until you perfect it.
Because he doesn't present it as a "well, the patient will die anyway due to his illness pretty soon, so whether my operation works or not, there's nothing for him to lose and plenty for science to win" case. He's like "no, it will work just fine."
GTFO There are considerably simpler operations where the surgeons are unsure if the patient will live.

Oh dear, this is going to be so cringe-worthy. Mediaset (Berlusconi's TV) and I bet it will be in one of those shows aimed at housewives with tinfoil hats on.

Quote: | But let's get this out of the way up early: I've gotten my hands on a sworn affidavit that Canavero filed with Italian police that formally denies he has anything to do with Konami or Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. In the report, Canavero swears to tell the truth or face perjury charges. |
And some retards will still not be convinced
Quote: | "On April 19, 2015, I received in my email inbox an email coming from the UK from the account [redacted], containing a link which directed to the trailer of the upcoming video game Metal Gear Solid V Phantom Pain, produced by Konami in Japan," the report reads. "The trailer features a video with a doctor with my physical likeness and a series of very violent scenes, some computer generated (presumably, they used an authentic video of me, which was then digitized, probably obtained from one of my TED Conference talks)."
"I do not have any suspects," he added. "I have nothing else to add except to declare my willingness to proceed against the people responsible for the facts explained here, which the judicial authority will observe as crimes." |
Good luck doc!

This is so disgusting. I can understand people might get upset if their likeness were used in a commercial product without their permission (especially when he clearly is not a gamer), but the first thing that came in his mind is:
"I'll sue them for money."
He has all the right to jump on this opportunity to make some money, but it is still fucking disgraceful coming from a surgeon. Then appearing on TV, interviews trying to get as many publicity as he can. I fucking wish he gets not a cent from all this and Konami redo this character just so I don't need to see his fucking face in my game.

I don't agree at all, the whole premise is wrong. It's not that the all-powerful designers era is over, but the Japanese AAA dev/publishers are in serious decline, but not necessarily over. The designers are doing absolutely fine.
Shinji Mikami - After Capcom, made Vanquish, then Evil Within. Both successful, almost AAA level production games.
Atsushi Inaba - Still in Platinum after leaving Capcom. Bayonetta 1 & 2, MGS Rising. Doing absolutely well.
Hidetaka Miyazaki - Freaking Souls games. Probably the best received big Japanese games in recent years.
All three are big figures doing big budget games that does well. They are just not Final Fantasy big.
Koji Igarashi - We don't know what hes up to, but he is working on a new game.
Keiji Inafune - Mighty No. 9. Looking to bomb.
Tomonobu Itagaki - Nobody cares about him.
The point is, to call the end of all-powerful designers is just wrong. The designers are all working, doing fine. A lot of recent years well received Japanese games are made by these designers. And the three I mention, none of these games are indie low budget stuff. They might not be working for the big publishers directly, but they are working on big projects. And of the ones the article named, only half of those are looking to be dead.
The real end of an era is the Capcom, Konami, SqureEnix's self developed AAA games.
Capcom only have SFV upcoming that's big. Deep Down is no where to be seen.
Konami, already been said enough the last few weeks.
Bandai Namco have Tekken 7 coming up and that's it.
Square is probably the only one still got big projects in works and are looking to be fine. FFXIV is getting new expansion, FFXV is coming along. Then of course they publish big western games. So they are the only ones that are still in the big AAA space, will be in the future.

i dont completely agree with the article, its not the end of great developers, but its certainly the end of many great old franchises that used to be at the top of their genres, mgs being the latest, following resident evil, castlevania and devil may cry.
i hope we will get to see many more kojima projects, maybe a spiritual mgs akin to what evil within was to resident evil or bayonetta to devil may cry, these games were far better than their most recent counterparts from the original franchises.
i agree miyazaki is still going strong with his in-house souls franchise, but lets see how long that lasts (hopefully very long).
sakaguchi and uematsu went on to create a few very ff-like games after leaving square, but now their mistwalker studio also changed the focus to mobile gaming.
nintendo seems to be leaning towards the same as well, which is scary.
luckily pc gaming has been going back to the roots recently, to great effect, but being both a console and pc/amiga player since the late 80s, i dont want to simply trade in one for the other.

Here's the straight answer: it's a short prologue that chronologically takes place before The Phantom Pain (and after the previous MGS game, MGS: Peace Walker), and it is critical to establishing the story of TPP, so I would not recommend skipping it. Beating the main story of GZ doesn't take long, but it has a ton of replay value, because the variety of playstyles the game enables is so diverse. People have lost dozens of hours in this small sandbox.
It is not a demo of The Phantom Pain. That would imply that the content of GZ is in TPP, and there is no indication whatsoever that it is. Only cynical morons continue to call it a demo. Saying that GZ is a demo of TPP is like saying that Half-Life 2: Episode One is a demo for Half-Life 2: Episode 2.
Correcting people since 2007 even if they're not wrong.
