|
 |
Official website
Developer: The Collective
Publisher: Atari
Game Synopsis:
Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure combines combat, action, adventure and stealth as the main character, Trane, sets out to prove that he's the best graffiti artist around. It's really not that easy, however, as the game features something called, "Get In, Get Up, and Get Out". Gamers will need to use stealth in order to "get in" to restricted areas, dexterity and agility in order to scale tall objects to "get up", and the ability to think on your feet as you run from the powers that be in order to "get out". The city of New Radius is a living character in Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure; it sets the tone and offers the thematic boundaries that oppress Trane from the opening cinematic to the dramatic conclusion.
Features:
* A revolutionary storyline written by Marc Ecko
* World-renowned hip-hop artist Talib Kweli as the voice of Trane
* Fighting mechanics that combine kicking, grappling and punching, along with improvised weaponry
* A groundbreaking graffiti gameplay system, designed to sharpen your skills as you tag with Aerosols, Rollers, Markers, Wheat Paste, Stickers and Stencils
* Eleven distinct city enviroments with 20 gameplay levels
* Unique "Intuition" system, allowing you to find ideal places to tag
* Authentic tags from 50 real-life graffiti artists, six whom appear in-game as mentors (Cope2, Futura, Obey, Seen, Smith, TKID)
Gamespy Preview
I know this is my first post here on nforce, but I've been watching the board for some time so I hope I don't mess things up too bad.
Actually I was quite surprised as I saw that no one was talking about this game because I think it has quite some potential to become a hit - and that's not because of Marc Ecko's name (okay, maybe that's a reason too) - but because of it's idea of bringing the art of graffiti into a game.
Well, I might be a bit over-excited. Most of my friends do graffiti, but I've been watiting for this game since february or march. Seeing that it's been pushed back a second time (first release was September - got pushed to November and now february) pisses me off entirely. Especially as the game is said to be almost gold.
All this push backs are made by Atari because of economical reasons (so it does not interfere with their latest Matrix game or the X360 release).
In the end I just wanted to draw attention to this game, even if it's quite some time...
Now to somebody else's opinion. The stage is clear!

Hi. I don't think that you did anything wrong and you reminded me of my general excitement over a game that might be a bit different from the norm. I know most devlopers are afraid to push the limits and if this game simply turns into Tony Hawk with a paint can I will at least be happy its not Tony Hawk with a unicycle or something equally mundane. The idea of painting the city is not new but also isnt as well worn so I have high hopes for this game. Thanks for the reminder

sucks that it got pushed to Feb 2006 released date, was kind of looking forward to this, and it was so close, only 2 weeks.
Heres the link to the info about it being pushed back:

I thought as it should be out tomorrow, and I'm still waiting for a review, I could bump this one and add a newer preview from IGN.
IGN Preview from 2/2/06
By the way, I'm pretty surprised that actually no one talks about this for it's being released for PS2,XBOX and PC.
I'm craving for this game and I still pray that they didn't mess it up too bad, but I'll see tomorrow, or if anybody else is waiting for this too, we'll see.
So long.

Since it's developed by The Collective I expect this game to be very good (like all their games). They really know how to handle these third-person action-adventure games.

I don't understand why I haven't noticed it by now but the spraycan Trane is holding on the cover is a Montana Black, probably the most used spray can brand, at least by professional artists. Kind of funny.
Something that bothers me is when people argue that this game promotes vandalism.
No, wait, that's the same argument they give when speaking about first person shooters and violence.
I think this game, if conveying (sp?) a message at all, is one about the freedom of speech.
Any connection to some caricatures? just kidding.

first it's advertisment, makes me think about how much advertisment we're going to see in the game, and second as I said many of my friends do graffiti, so I know the cans and it just surprised me that it didn't notice that earlier. nothing more, nothing less.

well watched a lot of the videos and this game looks like repetative spray & fight junk, it looks proper bad but i hope im wrong.
As for framerate, the 360 version runs smooth, while the PS3 is a jaggy mess that chugs along in slow motion.

that's what you see in the vids but most previews/whatever say it's most about platforming, like Prince Of Persia.
I'm still hoping that they didn't fuck it up too bad.

I read an interview in Edge magazine, Marc Ecko said he basically wanted to make Jet Set Radio. So i assume its similar.

yeah girls at home loved jsrf.
but why do guys think this is similar to mark eckos? i mean the only thing i can see as the same is spraypaint. otherwise than that, jsrf was colourfull cellchading kind of, with inliners to poppy jap music, while mark ecko is in some dark city with some platforming stuff.

This game sucks bigtime, JSRF is still the best game in this genre even though it´s years old. I really hate that they must make all new games in some kind of "ghetto style".

I totally agree to that. i can't see why people compare it to jsrf. Just because it's about spraying? Other than that, I can't see anything else that's similar.

Reklis, junior poster dude. You seem to think you are some expert on this just coz you know some idiots who think its clever and artistic to daub mindless graffiti everywhere.
Do us a favour and get an opinion about something other than this one game. 7 out of your 9 posts have been about this shit.

nice that you count my posts but quite senseless isn't it?
And I don't think my post was offending, just stating my opinion and I never said this was all about spraying. I said it's mostly about platforming, didn't I?
Ok, I said that I might be a bit over-excited because of it's graffiti parts and i noticed the spraycan on the cover.
By now I know why I should have never posted here, should have remained a reader.
You'll sure agree on that, won't you?
By the way, I have an opinion about a lot of games and a lot of other things but normally I'm not the type of guy, running around shouting out his opinions.
