So I have a SilentiumPC Gladius X60 case and it has an SSD/HDD docking station on the top. I thought- what the hell, SSDs are getting cheaper and cheaper, so I bought an Intel 530 today and stuck it in.

The thing seems to be completely broken.

I put it into the slot, Windows detected it, downloaded the drivers, showed up in the Device manager.

I entered the Disk Management, it asked me if I want to make it mbr or gpt, that went fine. When I wanted to format the disk to actually use it all got weird.

After hanging for 20 minutes or so it just spewed out a "Windows was unable to complete format" shit. I thought- whatever, I'll try an app or something. Downloaded Minitool Partition Wizard- it got stuck on 90% and never went forward. AOMEI Partition Assistant hanged at 2% for a while and then started spewing out 1, 2 and then 3 bad sectors when I canceled it. I have no clue what to do, I can't format the drive so I can't use it.

Additionally, my BIOS doesn't detect it. At all. As if it didin't exist.

I'm wondering if opening up the case and plugging it in the traditional way would change anything or if I should just return it.

EDIT: Just noticed it randomly disappears from Device Manager as well :\

I kept the properties page in the device manager when it disappeared, it just says this:

It's kind of weird that it disappears like that after a while, maybe the docking station is broken and if I connect it the old way it will work? Sad

Try another/new sata cable first. Might be a case of a faulty cable.

Try hooking it directly up to the motherboard. Maybe there is a problem with the docking station.

I just plugged the docking station to the port NEXT to the one it was previously put in and it works fine now.
