for 25 bucks you will get a addon with around 30-40 hours gameplay. New zones, new story, new npcs, new enemies, new quests, ..

After you get 16 free DLCs with the normal price, its okay if they charge 25dollar for such a big addon.

Well, they said you'll get 200+ hours from the main game, so depending on that we'll see if they tell the truth or it's just bullshit. Also the dlc packs are free, because CDPR are the good guys. They don't believe in dlcs and season pass.

And now they announce the "expansion pass":

common ma just read what they said properly - they've always said that those 16 DLCs will be free and that they will charge for big 15-20h ones

Nah, game only if you do everything on your first playthough. Keep in mind they said no generic fetch quests too, so ... Laughing And then you have the 16 cosmetic dlc packs which are free and now 2 expansions. At this rate Cyberpunk will never be completed. Also it's really interesting they decided to announce additional content so early. It would see the light of day in a year if they're not working on it since autumn.

I hope you dont want to imply that that content was just cut out to be reimplemented and sold later on?

That would be a horrible thing to do.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

I don't want to imply anything. I just have a feeling after the numerous delays and during the long optimization process they decided to start work on expansions. I sure hope it's not a cut content, but who knows really.

The insider on neogaf a year ago hinted the whole development process was a bit of a mess.

There is a difference though between content cut for development reasons and later repurposed/reused and content always intended to be in the game but cynically excised to be sold for extra cash. An example of the later is Mass Effect 3's day one Prothean DLC. It's content on the disc and integrated into the whole game. All buying it did was unlock it. As I said before, if that were the case for TW3, it would be day one DLC, or at least coming very soon after launch, not 6 and 12 months later.

thats just how it works in development (not only in games)
content creators like quest designers writes are entirely different people than optimizators , tsters and overall poeple doing technical side of things
- i guess some of those content creators went to make expansions and some were moved to Cyberpunk

Yep, but you don't make an announcement that early if you started work on it recently. I'm not familiar with their development process, but generally when there is contradictory information floating around the product suffers. They could have waited six months and announce the expansions. The game would have been released and if it's incredible it would boost their sales even more. Currently it just looks bad in the eyes of some people and even it it was a marketing strategy they should have made a change after the whole downgrade talk in the past few months.

The Witcher 3's development reminds me of Mafia 2 and F.E.A.R. 2. - both games were good, but did not meet the expectations and ultimately underperformed.

Dear oh dear...

W1.. bought.
W2... preordered boxed copy.
W3... will gleefully pirate shit out of.

Why? Because Microsoft. They are more than likely the culprit behind the DLC scam. CDPR were once a proper PC developer - I still remember the cool messages hidden in their youtube vids.

But now? Profit has taken over, with M$ swinging the dollar stick hard into their anuses.

Someone said 'it's the way the market is now'. That doesn't make it right.

I honestly wonder how far these publishers are going to push this. Are we going to simply 'lease' the rights to play as say, Batman, in the near future, for £$€39.99, and once we've d/l the core game engine, we download the individual missions as DLC? For say, £$€9.99? 3 for £$€24.99?

After all, that's basically what map packs are, and the extra missions in Batman, DX:HR etc etc.

Of course developers need to make money. Of course big publishers are going to buy up as many smaller ones as possible. Of course this all happens without thought to the customer.

But you mark my words, this isn't going to end well.

Mmmmm... to be fair, expansion packs have always been a PC thing, since the days of games sold on CDs.

Protest that they announced it too early if you want, or that it's too short/expensive/whatever, but saying its a "console thing that corrupted PC gaming" is just pure and simple bullshit, expansions as a concept were born on PC.

you must be shitting me... what kind of idiotic fandom

OH NOES, MY FAVOURITEST DEVELOPER DID SOMETHING SCUMMY... IT MUST BE SOMEONE ELSES FAULT!

no... no... and no. this is cdpr finally cashing in on all the goodwill they built up from the first two games for PRECISELY THIS REASON - they always intended to bust into the AAA gaming industry, so this was always on the cards for them... always how they intended to be, pushing paid dlc and cutting corners on their games and not pushing individual platform strengths so as to not offend their console audience - they deserve ALL the credit for this, its the direction THEY chose to take their business. just because you dont want to believe it, doesnt make it any less true.

so please. dont sell cdpr short... this is their glorious triumph and hard-won future, and they didnt need anyone else to get them to this point Smile

yep only asshole move from what i read is that they announced it way too soon, they should at least wait for game's release - and i guess it looks bad or treacherous to some people

Dont know about FEAR 2 .But with M2 it was completely different than how it looks now with W3. It was mostly creative battle between designers (especially D. Vávra) and 2K itself. It pretty much ended up in several cuts of the game's content (melee weapons, whole WW2 chapter,....) and half of the team leaving 2KCzech (to create Warhorse Studios), because those cuts were too much for them.

CDP evidently still has a lot to learn from the big boys. The smart move would have been to release the game first and when the "10/10 would suck cock to play" reviews come rolling in, then put the expansionDLC up for preorders (but not too late because then real people would have had a chance to play it and possibly post online that the game, in fact, sucks).

Expansion 2 Q1 2016

30H gameplay for what, 25 euro? I really don't see the issue here.

I Remember someone at Ubishit saying PC gamers are bitching, not to far fetched it seems.

The issue is that they say one thing and do another. Unfortunately once you go down that road there is no end to it. You just keep doing the same again and again and in a larger scale. As someone previously said, they just took advantage of all the hype generated over the years from both witcher games and W3 and now they are cashing in. Seems everyone is a slave to money.

Tbh though, i probably would have done the same...who knows.
