It's hard to explain, but the gameplay is a lot different to DivDiv that's for sure, worst part - for me - was that you have to control two characters simultaneously and you can't be far apart from each other.

As far as I remember; no, you have to control and move him yourself. I'm not sure what it was about the game but I just wasn't keen :\

As long as you're not expecting anything similar to DD quality-wise (especially regarding quests), you may be pleasantly surprised.

I played this one right after DD and from what I remember it wasn't bad but actually very boring. I don't quite remember why I found it boring, but I remember it took me weeks to finish this one (not because it was long) while DD was done very quickly (because I couldn't stop playing). I might be remembering it wrong, but the game was very monotonuous for some reason (correct me if I'm wrong).

Heck, I thought DD was boring but that's mainly because I was comparing it to D2, which was fun on stock and more fun with mods.

This game was terrible and even Larian admitted it.
I actually did give it a chance over the summer and got the farthest I've ever been, until I ran into a bug where I couldn't equip items anymore. Fun times.

Gonna necro your necro
Been playing this for a week now while you guys are beta testing pillars of eternity
And I am glad I gave the game a chance, as everyone was saying its bad compared to the first game.
Well, its not bad at all. Its just as fantastic. i freaking pulled 2 all nighters already, and can't stop playing.
Its more tactical than DD and requires a lot of pause on hardcore difficulty, especially in the beginning. But once you get going, and level up the character, the game becomes a blast to play.
Really the best combination of Diablo and a classic RPG. It does some thinks better than DD.
The battlefields are a great addition. They play pretty much like diablo 2 but they have a great function in the game, as you can enter them any time once you find a key.
You have easy access to merchants, preventing constant trips to towns, or tedious town portal mechanics, but they also give you a chance to level up and gear up if you get stonewalled in the main game.
And its a challenging game. took me most of act I and II to get good at leveling up my character properly. Basically, if you constantly need to chug potions, you didn't do a great job at balancing your character with your play style.
The skill system is great. Like gothic series, you have to buy it from trainers, but it also has a great bonus where you pretty much build your own skills.
this is especially cool for the mages, where you can make spells from different elements. You can make a fire+water spell as well
Anyways, you should play this lolo, and anyone else who missed this thinking its worse than DD. its definitely not, and if you don't like pause gameplay, just pick a lower difficulty, and you won't have to micromanage your companion at all.

I never understood all the hate for this one, I never liked it as much as DD but I thought it was a decent game in its own right.
Maybe it was the gameplay changes that put people off?

It is not like it was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE GAME but actually having a blast with it... lol.
But as long as you have fun, I guess, it does not matter.
