So.. I guess it's impossible to play this turd on a modern PC? I'm taking a break from pillars until some essentials are fixed. I thought this game was the most interesting because of the setting as a replacement. Tried oracle virtualbox, vmware workstation both running windows xp and NOTHING FUCKING WORKS PROPERLY. Vmware keeps fucking up the resolution. I manage a lower resolution and streching it, but vmware scales back again when the game is running so you have a nice 75% of your screen black as shit. Virtualbox was a disasterstory.

Anyone know a definite way of getting this turd up and running, nice and proper?

Have you tried GOG's version?

edit: Downloading it myself just now. I'll test it out.


edit 2: GOG version of Arcanum runs just fine under W7 64bit. Started it up and picked a character, went past the cutscenes and through the first dialogue.

The file I downloaded was setup_arcanum_2.0.0.15.exe.

Yeah, i have. Best i can do is play it in windowed, but then i need to set an IMO uncomfortable resolution for this game. I honestly can't stand playing in windowed mode.

Hmm, when did you start having problems? It ran fine fullscreen for me, though with black bars.

It does run fullscreen, but it's choppy as hell :/

Guess i'll just have to try installing windows 7 as well. Forgot to mention in my rage that i'm on w8.

Filename is "setup_arcanum.exe" though.

I've seen some hits on Google for my own filename, maybe try hunting down that version first.

Also, have you tried compatibility settings for the exe file in Windows 8?
