Man this game is though. Playing on normal and getting raped in the cave below my stronghold by 3 ogres (one is an ogre druid). Besides my ranger, i have 3 guys in my group, but they finish me off pretty quick. Also found a dragon in the dungeon, i lasted around 5 seconds when facing him plus his many friends.

I beat that ogre encounter by sending in one person through the south entrance, going to the left corner and shooting the druid. For some reason that made it so only the druid and other ogre came after me, the boss ogre just stood around doing nothing. Concentrate on killing the druid first otherwise he'll keep healing his ally.

I actually only pulled the druid and 2 of his friends. I will try focusing on the druid.

because that way you have time to position everyone (for example behind the throne, some line of sight blocking is always helpful) and you get to start the fight by nuking the priest/mages with your ranged characters. Get the priest companion if you haven't already, his regeneration/protection spells will help the tank if he's having trouble surviving. The priest is in

Go to the Inn and sleep first. Then visit the tree, see dead people and talk to the guy again.

Most companions can be found by following the thread of the story. I focused on going to the Stronghold first (as part of the story - not a good idea on Hard) and found the 4 early companions very quickly. (Durance was part of a small detour, didn't actually knew he was there)

I had to rest one night at the in then you get a dream and after you've done what you were told to do in the dream he becomes available.

Regarding Raederic, I waited until I had a full party and I was level 5. If you are struggling I suggest you go east to the village and do the content there, you will get some more exp and gear.

The game generally doesn't allow me to pick them up if I'm already at the max. The one exception was a NPC giving them to me in a convo.

Huh, i just couldn't pick them up. So i ventured forth and slayed a bit more before i rested and just ran back to pick it up again.

I can't stress this enough. If you meet an encounter you can't defeat, come back later.

I play on hard, and had a team of 5, level 4s, when I took down Raedric - imho, it was an easy fight. Effective crowd control takes ability synergy to pull off. Lower their defences, then your important CC stuff won't miss. I had Raedric charmed throughout the battle, Charms lasting 30 seconds a pop.

My main is a Min/Maxed Cipher, with 20 int, 2 weapons with very low armor, so I gain focus instant fast.

This is an old school game, so you have to spend time planning your build, and understanding the mechanics.

Plan. And if that fails, get higher levels and come back. Simple, really.

Debuffing is crucial in encounters. Priests can decrease enemy accuracy, chanters can lower enemy DR - those are essential as well.

Use a wizard's Miasma of Dull-Mindedness - then you will crit with your charm, and boom, that doubles duration.

30 seconds a pop.

I'm not sure I made the right decision making main a barbarian instead of a fighter, the fighter seems much more durable and accurate (higher overall dps).

I was kind of expecting a D&D barb with passive damage reduction, speed bonuses and a frenzy that makes them immune to all CC, the default frenzy seems kinda lackluster in POE. Maybe the class will improve as I get higher level.

My main is a ranger. I created an adventurer at the Inn and made her a barbarian. Doing ok so far with those two and the fighter, the wizard, and the priest. It's more fun for me playing what I want than min-maxing and meticulously planning builds.

Same here. I made him a two weapon wielder, not to do damage, but to gain focus really fast, and I wear light armor on him, and I specced him fully as a controller - no damage. During fights, around 2/3 of the enemy team is fighting on my side Very Happy

Thank you!

I enjoy the mechanics part of these RPGs a lot, so I read every ability description thoroughly, and think up of combinations.

I'm really happy for my chanter now, because he can reduce DR, and I usually do just that, before putting down AOEs with my Wizard - but it's even better for my fighters, who basically double their damage with this on hard.

Starts coming back to me the forgotten tactics of the old Very Happy

Main is a rogue with dual wield, but i use any trap i recover before the fight (one at the time, but still, a AOE trap can do wonders used properly).

Recruited the fighter, yes, but used the inn ability to create a secondary one. The bloody fighters, if made properly can keep quite a few enemies glued to them, while the wizard is waltzing around and the priest buffs and heals as needed. I wonder how the new generation fares in this game Mr. Green

It didn't work with puppets ;( Same 14-15 seconds duration.. I haven't tried it yet with whispers

PS I wish I had a rogue in my party...cipher+ rogue= non-stop sneak attack fest Very Happy And as far as I know there is no rogue companion..Maybe I'll get a mercenary from the inn\stronghold.

I doubt they fare. Takes effort to master the combat. This is not a game for newRPGtards, that is for sure.

With a proper engine and budget this could have been a really good game.

It won't happen all the time, you have to crit with it, but said debuff increases your chances to pretty high.

I've played around now with diff. party setups, rogue is not that essential, in this game, it's simply a form of DPS, which you can have another form for. The rogue skillset can be had with other characters.

For me that fighter companion so far is the most useful, second one is my Cipher main. Mainly because i can spam their skills every fight.
That wizard and priest companion only have very few useful skills usable every encounter. Hopefully it will change after some levels Surprised (level 4 currently they are)
