Let's hope this will be a success and that this potential success won't the the first step before a complete sellout.

That would be the ultimate injustice, just as they get back legends like Tim Cain the company goes bust.

I hope Eternity sells well for them.

What i really meant to say was "sellout" as in treating PC gamers like second class citizens and pander to Mircosoft/Sony for some quick solid bucks.

Yep, good to know, as I've played "some" "beta" at a certain point and was afraid to not get too spoiled. Was not VERY impressed, I reckon, but, still, I have hopes this turns out to be a solid cRPG. Smile

That's the big head mode in the options I think, or was it a config file tweak?
(Being a Unity game this doesn't really have config files though, it's stored in the registry though there are of course save files and at times profile specific files depending on the game.)

I think you can choose but I don't quite remember how it was planned besides the beta being PC Steam only.

Should be the same as in Wasteland 2 case, in the backers' portal you pick Steam or GoG (or something else, but only one option in case of "one digital copy" awards) and get the appropriate key.

I gave the beta a try for a few hours, since it's quite possible it's the final build before release. And I've gotta say, I like the game a lot. Village still seems a bit too stataic for my taste - I think it might be the lack of NPCs, children, also small animals, birds etc. But other than that I like how it looks. I much prefer PoE to Wasteland 2 as far as graphics go, though divinity did look more vibrant. It does, however, look like updated IE game, which is what it was supposed to do. I'm quite satisfied, though slightly worried if bigger cities will have the same "somewhat hollow" problem as the beta area.

On the gameplay side I was a bit worried about combat, but those worries were quickly forgotten once I learned the game a bit. They changed a lot of the abilities, talents, skills etc. - it's much easier to understand. Game now also gives you decent feedback on who's attacking and engaging whom and whotnot - it helps once you learn to recognize it and the chaos suddenly starts to get a bit more easy to understand. Compared to IE games - a lot more is happening. Each and every character has abilities usable every encounter, many classes have different and complex mechanics which require some additional attention from the player. I think IE games were a bit easier to manage, since not every class required active control. Here - almost everyone on the team does.

Writing is also stellar, quests seem varied and offer the player options. Areas are well designed and feel different from each other, which makes exploration interesting. Some stuff to be found here and there too.

All in all I'd say we're indeed in for a treat Very Happy

This beta is also an entirely separate branch of the game, even uses a different "app id" so it's very likely that Obsidian might have added a lot of things to the game that's not present in the beta version, areas might look different for one thing although many of the gameplay mechanics are probably near finalized even in the public beta as to allow players to test them and provide feedback for suggested fixes and other changes. Smile
(More about testing those and game balance than testing different areas in the game thus the limited content in the beta which also avoids spoilers, it could actually function as a demo of sorts too I suppose were Obsidian to have plans to release one.)

There's a number of dangerous insects in D&D as well from what I remember, for a low-level inexperienced party at least. Very Happy
(Plus that "Dire" version of various wildlife animals, unsure if this game has something similar but the spiders are a real annoyance in the beta even if they're maybe not quite phase or sword spiders ala D&D.)

EDIT: Though I'm not that good at D&D, I remember Troika's game adaption of the 3.5 edition in Temple of Elemental Evil being a real challenge due to them being pretty accurate with their implementation so there were quite a number of things to take into account unlike many of the earlier games. (SSI back in the DOS era had a few tough games too, sleep spell and other conditions causing attacks to instantly slay the affected being, worked well enough for low-level mages clearing up kobolds and such until enemies started using it too and eventually became immune to it but that's what fireball is for when it doesn't incinerate half your party. Razz )
