I have been toying with the idea of buying a camera for a long time, but I am unsure where to start. I want an all round camera to get me going, something I can add lenses etc, to relatively cheaply.
I see little point in going for the cheap alternative, however, I am overwhelmed,and confused by the choice in DSLR cameras.
I thought I might get this; as a 'beginners' camera

I can afford something better, but I have bills to pay, so I really have to limit my unnecessary spending to a minimum, therefore, I want something that;
1. will last me a while
2.I can add lenses, tripods etc; relatively cheaply
So, to sum up I really can't see me spending more than £3-400. Please bear in mind we pay way over the odds in then UK, and far more than most European countries (apart from possibly Norway & Sweden). Therefore, what may be relatively cheap in your neck of the woods is not cheap in rip off Britain.
I want to use the camera for wildlife shots, both ranged, and macro. Hence the reason I want an all rounder.
I really am a beginner so am open to suggestions. Thanks for any advice

d3200 is kinda limited. d3300 is the LOWEST I would go. Then D5xxx or canon X00D series
You want to use live view or not? If You do want to use onscreen live view, then go canon. Nikon dont have live preview when changing settings. That is, on nikon, screen preview is not getting brighter/darker when changing shutter speed etc. On canon it does. Very usefull for learning
I was thinking about that and got canon 700d and it turns out I am not using live view at all. only viewfinder 
But that aint the only reason I went for canon 700d. I did made a huge research and D3200 is really out of the question if You want to stick with it's stock lens. Its an older, bigger nikon lens that got replaced by pretty decent stock in d3300. faster, quieter and better focusing. d3200/d3300 also have not the best auto focus but its better in d3300 than 3200...
But its not bad anyway. 18-55 is most versitale option imo. Light is pretty standard for stock lenses, so You could have some trouble with indoor photos.
I got my camera also because, canon got better stock stock lens in 700d than any in nikons. focuses realyl quiet and very fast. I love the camera.
Also, Don;t want to do canon/nikon but I prefer the settings wheel to be in front, rather than on back. Easier to change iso on the fly (which You cant do on low nikon models).
obviously 700d is too expensive for You. Not sure how canon 1200d fares to say the truth... d3200 is too lacking. same with d3300. D5200 have a good price tho. So does Pentax K-50 which I would go for but it wasnt available in my region.
edit: Here are kind of photos You can expect from stock 18-55 canon lens. I guess its the same on canon 1200d... You have to research that

You should get that d3200 in Your hands and see if You can change iso with the wheel on the back, on the fly. if yes, then it should be mostly ok
edit2: Also, something than nikon don't have, is cheapest 50mm lens on the planet. Canon 50mm. It is very fast lens 1.8 great for night shooting. But as it is, 50mm, it would be too zoomed on aps-c cameras like 1200d or 700d like mine. Thats why I am still thinking is it worth getting it

all new dlsr in that budget are kinda crap.
for that money i would by a better dslr sh from a trusty person (better if you have a knowledgeable friend which can check it for you). or a good dslr body, and buy lenses later.
anyway, remember that you need to buy at least one more lens, a cheap fixed 50mm 1:1.18 is the bare minimun. 18-55 stock on any body is kinda crap.
advantage of sh is that they come usually with other lenses to.
and you dont need the latest dslr with 100000000mpx.
for example i have a 450d canon and i took pictures from weddings to birds. lenses are all that matter if you have a decent enough body. in that light, stick to the usual canon/nikon choice. they have the largest options for lenses.
and dont think in terms of a beginner camera if you refer to dslr. if you get a good dlsr you can keep it for years. i think i got mine 6 years ago, and is still doing fine. like i said, lens matter most if you have a good body.

Thanks for the replies lads, if, as you say that budget is crap (although to me that's bloody expensive!) can you suggest alternatives, with links in the UK if possible? As I said above I really am at a loss and don't want to get ripped off.
Also, why exactly is that budget of camera crap? What is so bad about them?

well, from my pov, a good starting for beginers are mirrorless at this time.
dslr are another class of cameras, and there is no point to get a "beginner" dslr. and no, they are not dying any time soon.
yeah, 3300 is a good camera, but at this time i would get a nikon 5300 if i will ever get a nikon  .
on canon ... dont know, they were kinda shit lately for good entry cameras. maybe a rebel sl1.
aim to have in the body as many as possible of advanced features from professional counterparts. because that's why you get a dslr, not for set all on auto, shoot.
anyway, i hate curent dslr's with touch screen which only draws batery, movie recordings, live preview an so. i'm a dinosaur.

Dont got for 50mm on aps-c sensor like some say. It will be too zoomed and equivalent to 85mm
