Got the PS3 ages ago with apparently non-working bluray drive.
Took it apart, found 5 discs on top of eachother in the bluray drive wtf? Anyway, seemed to work fine, left it apart for several months.
Recently got my E3 Flasher, tried to take a dump of the console with no success so I thought wth, I'll assemble it and update it first etc so it is atleast on the 4.66 Firmware which the tools seem to require.
But for some reason I get no picture out of it now? What could have happened?
Only reason I think the console might still work properly is because I get the usual beeps like I should if I try to boot it into safe mode or reset video.
But I just can't get any picture out of it, via HDMI or the old port.
Reset Video Output
If you are changing cables or cannot see an image on the screen, you may need to reset the video output to default settings. To reset the video output:
While the PS3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive On/Off button on the front of the system until the PS3 beeps a second time (approximately 5 seconds), then release it.
The PS3 will power up, the Video Output Settings will automatically reset to the standard resolution (or detect the current display output settings of your TV/monitor).
Quote:
Manually Change Video Output
If you wish to change the video cable or change the video resolution you may manually change the video output.
In the XMB™ home menu, go to Settings icon(Settings) > [Display Settings] icon and press the X button iconbutton.
Highlight [Video Output Settings] and press the X button iconbutton.
Select the appropriate connector type you are using for your TV (i.e., HDMI, AV Multi, etc.) and press the X button iconbutton.
You may be informed the console will "test the settings for 30 seconds". Press the X button iconbutton to "Change" the display of the system.
If your TV has multiple "Input" or " Video " channels, (i.e., "Input 1", "Input 2", "Input 3", etc.), you may need to toggle through each "Input" channel on your TV to find the correct one that will display the appropriate picture for your connection type (i.e., HDMI) during the 30 seconds, especially if you do not see a picture. The system will remain in the selected connector type for 30 seconds.
Select all resolutions that are supported by your TV (i.e., Standard, 480p, 720p, etc.) and press the X button iconbutton.
Select the TV type (either "16:9" or "4:3") and press the X button iconbutton.
Verify your selections on the final screen and press the X button iconbutton to save your settings.
At this point, you may choose to [Set Audio Output Settings] or to [Finish]. Click here for information on setting the audio output settings.
if HDMI and AV-Out dont work the ps3 is probably dead, you can try to reset the video output as said before (then you have to use the av-out first to reconfigure, that auto choice never worked for me when i tried) and maybe try different hdmi cables, some ps3 were a bit silly
if its a phat, then i remember that you had to change the thermal paste on the GPU ... it was always a thing the PS3 did before YLOD (YellowLightOfDeath)
remember it was not a black screen (atleast not on the fat ladys i know) but just some gfx errors for a few weeks and then bam dead, reflow helped in every case for about 3-12 months. after that its a permadeath
just think about that thing will die again, reflowing works a few times but the lifetime decreases with every time and after a few times it wont help anymore
