Except that the media would just make shit up regardless. By "targeting" (calling them out on bullshit) people are more and more aware of what kind of people they are. By ignoring them, they gain power in corporations through the corrupt media.
They have an agenda to push, ignoring such things from the beginning will hardly prevent it from growing. Instead, it would allow these corrupt lying people to gain a much stronger core without anyone really paying attention. You seem to forget that they have their echo chamber to reinforce everything that's said, it's already been established that it doesn't matter if they really are getting harassed or not, they can just lie and make their own harassments through their own fake accounts and then their media friends pretend like it's real and make a big fuzz about it. Rinse repeat. Ignore it and it seems much more real... But because people aren't ignoring it, more people are wise to their methods.
