It's the only difference I noticed though. |
A demo is a small bit of sample content taken from a full game and packaged on it's own. The content of Ground Zeroes isn't in The Phantom Pain.
A "demo" for a game cannot actually be a "demo," if it entirely consists of absolutely critical exclusive content (story-wise, etc) that isn't in the "full" game. It's like saying that the Agents of SHIELD TV show is a "demo" for the Avengers movies, or that the show Firefly was a "demo" for the movie Serenity. It's just not the same. It's a prologue, not a demo.

GZ is not way different than mafia's demo truth to be told. But if you think putting a small scenario in it makes its worth 20 dollars then yeah it can be discussed.

For me, the habit (of delaying PC games) is something that I always approach democratically: every single unjustified delay is despicable, no one has the free pass, ever!
These two weeks are obviously there just to optimize the sales on console, since it's not that you optimize or polish such a huge game in ~10 days. Though I guess it's still better than the usual all things considered.

Why is nobody ridiculing the huge table for different editions of the game, like they did for Watch Dogs? Oh, how many laughs we had, what happened now, I wonder.

There's only one version for the PC edition of the game which is a digital download, only difference with the physical console version is the inclusion of a sort of map.
Of course there's the collectors edition as well but at a price of nearly 100 $ / Euro it's more of a oddity though I guess the physical goods might be interesting to collectors even so.
(The digital extra content just seems to be a bunch of different colored outfits and some golden version of a few weapons.)
For Watch_Dogs I believe the PC edition came in a normal version, a digital deluxe edition and a UPlay exclusive "DedSec" edition plus a special collectors edition also priced at some crazy sum like the above console version of MGS V.
(And some pre-order bonuses depending on if you bought it at Game, GameStop, Steam or UPlay and perhaps even a few more.)

Interinactive wrote: | Ubi: 9 editions + a season pass
Konami: 3 editions |
Actually it's 7 editions + season pass, and I should mention that each of these editions were available on PC, unlike the CE for MGS V.
Quote: | Ubi: No one version came with everything
Konami: One version comes with everything (save data and previous game purchase bonus from an entirely different game aren't applicable) |
You don't get a map (even a scanned one) if you buy it on Steam. By buying Digital Deluxe + Season Pass for W_D you got everything, even the *technically* PS exclusive skins.
Quote: | Ubi: Entire DLCs are cut as served as content over seperate editions
Konami: Gimmicks and weapons are extra content from a CE purchase, a lot of which is only different coloured versions of things you get in any version |
Wut. All extras in W_D were gimmicks (different colored outfits and gold skins for weapons, which you also get in any version, the only exception is the 1920s mobster outfit I guess). All the "cut" sidemissions are just normal sidemissions everyone would get in a game, with 1-2 extra lines of dialog. When I was playing W_D I didn't even notice when I was playing the "entire DLC served as content" because it was so minute.

MGSVI, MGSVII, MGSVIII, MGSIX, MGSX, MGSXI
When each of these games ^^^^^ come out one year after the other with minimal improvements, while being released too early and with too many bugs, with fuckin' SSDs tied to horse bullshit, with each year accumulating more and more of an arrogant attitude toward PC gamers, when they tie social shit to single player content, when they hold reviews back until after the game has released, when they release next gen games that run under 30FPS on all consoles, when they turn a game like MGS into a game like Conviction or Ghost Recon Future Soldier - when all of that happens and there's enough disdain for Konami, let us know and we'll come back to this point. |
Are we talking about Ubisoft as a whole or just the W_D situation? Because my original question regarded only the W_D -> MGSV situation.

Interinactive wrote: | If WD was a new game by someone else, I doubt it would have had half as much controversy as it did. |
That's precisely my point, just by a virtue of being published by Ubisoft W_D got a lot of shit becase "lulz, you need excel tables for all the different editions", while the situation's pretty similar here as well.
Quote: | And why would a digital game need a digital map? The game will have one. What are you going to do, leave your digital game map to view another digital game map? It's also probably an overall map that joins every section together with no real use in the game. The physical map is a collectible. Some physical maps don't even match the games properly or are of no use whatsoever. |
Fair enough, but if it's included in all of the other editions at least they could put a scanned version in the Steam version as well.
Quote: | You can debate the rest all you like, in no way is it the same, and in no way are Konami like Ubisoft. Even if I have to end that with a "yet", though I doubt I'd need to. |
*cough*Pro Evolution Soccer*cough*, where even the 2015 PC version is a port of X360/PS3, and Steam store actually had PS4 screens to misguide potential buyers.

In lieu of a physical PC Collector's Edition, I'll just be buying a copy of the PS4 or XB1 CE, selling the included copy of the game day 1, and buying the game on Steam. Should be able to sell the game for $50-60 easy, so little-to-no loss there, and if the PC version is $50 (or even 60), then I've got the game on PC (minus some MP skins I don't care about) and the physical goodies, for $100 tops.

Surely you aren't suggesting that there isn't a difference between annualized sports game franchises, and annualized Assassin's Creed games?

Something fishy going on with Kojima and Kojima Productions. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1013350
Quote: | - "Kojima Pro Live" twitter account is getting retired and suggest everyone to move on to metalgear_en
- The KojiPro logo from the MGS5 site has been removed.
- The KojiPro website has been shut down.
- The " Legacy Collection" and "Ground Zeroes" are no longer being branded "A Hideo Kojima game".
- Konami's staff page no longer lists Kojima as an employee. |
I don't see how all this can lead to anything but an announcement that Kojima is leaving Konami and his studio is being shut down or renamed to be ran by someone else or something.
Will Kojima retire or move to:
a) PC and make indie games
b) Hollywood and make movies
is the question

One thing is sure tho, if that's the case, this will be one of the last chances of being a true MGS game..
