They already announced the updated graphics for PC so there's no reason the rest wouldn't come too. I guess this is like what happened with Witcher 2, the enhanced version came to consoles and the PC version was updated with all the new features. |
Cool, will have to replay it then when it comes out.

That's not the point. Fargo being a sleazy rat is though.
It's actually genius.
Start KS campaign and make the overall theme about generating hate towards the fatcat publishers. And then work with these people nonetheless afterwards. Genius!

At least we didn't get a console game dressed up as a PC title. As far as I'm concerned he should be able to do whatever he wants with it at this point, we're still getting future updates and nothing is changing for the worst. |
It's called hypocrisy.
Oh and I'm still waiting for that balance patch. Besides, there weren't many patches in general and the cause of that just got unveiled.

I think the most important reason why it will not sell well is that the game doesn't have that many voice-overs, so you actually have to READ the dialogs.

1.) noun -The practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one’s own behavior does not conform
So, given that definition, please substantiate your claim with examples.

Huge fucking patches have been coming out like clockwork every month since launch in September, with the exception of January. The patchnotes are longer than my arm. The most recent came out 3 weeks ago, and obviously won't be the last. In fact, as this whole announcement clearly says if you'd care to pay attention rather than getting hysterically outraged about it for no reason, they're adding new gameplay systems, overhauling the graphics, adding tons more voiceovers, and upgrading it to the latest version of Unity, which will make modding the game a lot more accessible and to many more users.
Please, keep factually embarrassing yourself to further play up this stereotypical uninformed cynical PC gamer martyr role you've got going on, or whatever it's supposed to be.

Is no-one fucking good enough for you? Seriously, you have it out for Brian fucking Fargo?!? I know that some gamers love to act like paranoid schizophrenics and build up delusional realities in which game developers are these boogeymen personally out to get them, but if you have to pick somebody to fulfill that fantasy, Brian Fargo should be way the hell down on the list.
Quote: | Start KS campaign and make the overall theme about generating hate towards the fatcat publishers. And then work with these people nonetheless afterwards. Genius! |
The overall theme was not about hating publishers for the sake of hating publishers. That's shallow and meaningless on it's own. The theme of the Kickstarter was creative control. It's not about hating publishers specifically for no reason, and it wasn't directly about them being "fatcats"; it's about hating when non-creative people (executives, market researchers, etc) try to exert creative influence that trumps that of the artists and creative people actually making the game. The disparaging of publishers was an effect, not the cause. In their case, bypassing a traditional publisher allowed them to stay true to their creative vision, and that's all that they were fighting for.
And now that the game is creatively complete, just the way that they, the artists, wanted it, they're porting it to a new platform, artistically intact. Porting it is entirely a technical matter in and of itself, rather than a creative one, so it in no way compromises their creative vision or expression. By the way, it's self-published on Xbox One by inXile themselves.
So, please explain again why this is such a horrible damned thing, or in any hypocritical, dishonest, or disrespectful towards the game's fans?

One of the new features listed:
"- New voice-overs for all major speaking parts and CNPCs"
So that'll be largely covered, I suppose.

So many friggin patches... jesus... and yet the Arizona refurbish/fix patches were the only ones that affected the game for me in a worthwhile way. Next one would be the balancing patch but nvm. I forgot, that one isn't out yet. I wonder why
Seriously, while many of those fixes were important to many people, granted, most weren't for me personally. So excuse me if 80% of those did jackshit for me or anyone who didn't have much problems with the game. Arizona was something that positively affected everyone and so will the balance patch. Since the latter one isn't out... come again?

Yes, apparently no one is good enough for me anymore. Indeed, you've got a keen eye. That's what happens when every other week some guy in the industry, one you've put hopes in, does a total 180° or turns out to be a giant douche and greedy fuck, for and since the last 10 years. So, yeah. Fuck 'em.
If I'd have to make a list of all the shit that was disrespectful towards PC gamers, I'd need to outsource to thousands of chinese sweatshops to get it done before the sun explodes.
Take your respect/moral fingerpointing and shove them up your arse.
I give it where it's due and on this matter, not the game itself, just to remind you, it's definitely not.

Many people didn't back this only for the game, they also backed it to send a fucking message.

I think people are being a bit overly dramatic about this. From the looks of it we'll get a nice update for PC which improves a lot of things.
I doubt this will sell well on consoles, and if it does maybe it'll "convert" some of them.

That's true. It's not invalid just because I don't like it. It's invalid, because it's factually incorrect.
Quote: | So many friggin patches... jesus... and yet the Arizona refurbish/fix patches were the only ones that affected the game for me in a worthwhile way. Next one would be the balancing patch but nvm. I forgot, that one isn't out yet. I wonder why |
The point is that whether or not the patches personally "did anything" for you, your claim that "there weren't many patches in general" is factually bullshit. There have been plenty of patches and fixes, and furthermore, it's wrong to use past tense, because they're still coming out.
Cedge wrote: | If I'd have to make a list of all the shit that was disrespectful towards PC gamers, I'd need to outsource to thousands of chinese sweatshops to get it done before the sun explodes. |

Show me where he just said that publishers are bad because they, I dunno, make money and sometimes release games on consoles?
Remember, they tried to get this game funded by traditional publishers for 20 years, and they were ready to do that at the drop of a hat, if it didn't infringe on their creative vision. They could have gotten the game funded that way, but only by signing away a lot of their creative control. The problem wasn't ever about who was making money; it was about who was in creative control. I mean, what are you suggesting here? That the main thing fueling Brian Fargo's dislike of publishers, and the only thing he was trying to prove with his Kickstarter, is that he doesn't like them making money? Bullshit. He's a professional game developer. He doesn't dislike people making money. He just dislikes bean counters always trumping artists in the traditional publishing model. That was the point.
Kickstarter was a means to the end of making the game they wanted to make. Nothing more. It wasn't about "sticking it to the publishers," or whatever, or proving publishers wrong or something. Frankly, it couldn't prove that, it's too niche. Seriously, a 3 million dollar Kickstarter budget? EA sneezes bigger marketing budgets than that for low-tier cellphone games while they're on their lunch break.
Likewise, what is your personal argument here? That publishers are evil or whatever? If so, how is that relevant? The game still doesn't fucking have one! How is any of this relevant at all?
Quote: | Many people didn't back this only for the game, they also backed it to send a fucking message. |
And those people are delusional idiots. What message is that, exactly? And seriously, messages are more important than games? That's so self-righteous and pretentious, it's not even funny. Fuck that.
But still, I'll humor it. What specific "message" from the Kickstarter has been violated, exactly?
Quote: | He knew exactly what he was doing. |
Yup. He was trying to steal your money to sell you a terrible game with the only goal being that they could independently self-publish it on another platform later after the game is creatively complete (but still being actively patched and updated) in order to make the fatcat publishers, which this game still doesn't have, richer! Danny Ocean can't plan better heists than this!
Quote: | And M$ will make a buck from it, selfpublished or not. That's some sneaky shit in my book. |
And Valve gets a 30% of every copy sold on Steam, self-published or not. How is this any different than Microsoft ("M$" with a dollar sign is the most embarrassingly late-90s thing, by the way. I can't believe you're unironically using that in 2015) getting a cut of the Xbox One version? If your problem is just that somebody else other than inXile gets a cut of the sale (which, seriously, why the hell would anybody care, if it's not creatively interfering?), then why doesn't that apply to every single game on Steam already, or ANY STORE for that matter?
Quote: | And it's my friggin book. I don't expect anyone to like it. |
Do expect to be called on it when it's stupid.
