...dont think so. Cos 3d screen is more of a gimic than VR as you have 100 times more fun with VR.

Ture but vr is not too great in its current form.
Sure, Dk1 got me AMAZED that images can be produced, that look lifelike. not in the graphics sense, but the depth and 3d is just fantastic.

But current hmd's are far from usable. Too low resolution, cables, poor fov, bad optics, no eye tracking for dof and most importantly... its huge crap on Your face. That gets hot after a while.
I still think it will be hit success and will change our lives forever

ofc they wont announce it like: hey people, we gonna announce hl3 @gdc on 3rd of march @ 3pm

people would go crazy, but yes dont expect anything about hl3. its most likely major trolling by valve, on the other way the date is perfect to do so (most likely then their second choice after 3/3/3333 ^^)

I would think it's GDC that picks the day/hour anyway, not Valve.

Anyway, probably like last year this will be our only insight into Source 2 until later.

More details about the HTC set, still waiting for morrrr!

I just love the people that call this a "fad" ///

For me, DK2 is good enough for a really enjoyable experience at its current state, to the point that if I am able to play a certain game in VR, I will not play it any other way.

Now, from this point I am sure things will get much much better, so bring it on! I cannot wait to enjoy more of this not so impressive "fad" hahahhaa

dk2 is not good enough. Its a pain in the ass to get working right, sync 75fps. And even then most of times its jittery mess. The resolution of 1080p oled makes it look like a magnified newspaper and almost unusable outside of novelty factor. I liked rgb fill of dk1 more, but colors of dk2 oled much more. Dk2 also had not latency or blur whatsoever whichw as great. Actually even dk1 was good in that regard at 60fps. then dk2 made it perfect at 75 fps... so why we need 90 ? I dont get it. and positional tracking of dk2 was a godsend but the moving boundares were so small and I felt way too limited. Srsly... dk1 was so simple to use and get running. Playing doom3 with it was incredible.

So... I am really excited for this. Even more than oculus let's say. I had both prototypes and I think oculus is fucking around for too long... just waiting for pc power to raise, so they can release 1440pp thing and expect people to run it at 90fps in 3d. not gonna happen even in 2020 Laughing

So not sure what valve is gonna do. They do have all the statistics on hardware they could ever want from steam surveys and they know that there are not many people who have hardware beefy enough to run this thing.

I dont get any judder as long as I run it either in direct mode or if in extended I have to set my other monitor to 75HZ ... this way I have been able to run mostly everything - please note that this is all recently, as a few months ago everything was a mess with constantly updated drivers and software etc ... things are much better now ... Did you like Alien Isolation in VR? That game runs really well for me. I'm using an EVGA 780ti

Now thats fucking everything up. Some apps want direct mode, other extended with cloned 75hz displays, but then You cant see anything on original display. and so on and so on. I don't own dk2 anymore but it was pain in the ass for 60hz display user. If apps supported direct mode well, it was ok. But that's rarely the case and even then monitor have to be set to 75hz.

unfortunately I've sold dk2 before alien isolation. But I dislaked the game, because it should be 3-5hours game. Not 18hours power generator turning on simulator Laughing
Played most of hl2 on dk2. quake2, some racing games. All demos. And nothing came close to doom3 and virtual cinema on dk1... I still love both dk1 and dk2. Eagerly waiting for next steps. Just hate the power hungry direction it's all coming too. Just put 4k screens in there. Games dont have to be rendered at that resolution. As long as we dont see a pixel grid, we only have to deal with ingame aliasing and not pixel mesh.
And it's all still kinda pointless without eye tracking. In vr, You dont move Your eyes. You move whole head and thats what is causing nausea

It seems like you dealt with the same issue I was having ... getting a monitor that support 75HZ and higher was key for me, in addition to the demos games and sdk being optimized ... so things are actually extremely stable now, I don't remember the last time I had any issues running everything. Again, from this point things can only get much better ... I agree about the eye tracking that would be huge ...

It's going to look like absolute shit unless you do render at 4K. I don't think trading one problem for another is a viable solution. Small high performance 4K displays would be quite pricey as well. I don't know if there is anything like that with refresh rate over 60Hz even in the works at any size right now.

Sony just unveiled their vr in final form

1080p oled 120 HZ (!!!) screen... 1080p is not much but it's full RGB, not pentile poor fill like dk2. interesting

1080p, 120hz sounds nice. but that wont work with a ps4 and a pc to power that is most likely a bit expensive Wink

its prolly ps4 only and will have games designed specially for it. Frolly simple stuff.
And only 100 fov. that was not enough on dk2. I could see boundaries of the screen

so since oculus disappoints for not getting their shit together more and more every month and sony failed -> valve/htc is our savior again till ms comes up with holo lens? Wink

So, Nvidia announcements:

1. Set-top box gaming console, Nvidia Shield (will be released in May).

2. New subscription-based game streaming service: Nvidia Grid. Promises 1080p @60fps and you start playing within a minute. Released simultaneously with Shield.

A live demonstration of Nvidia Grid was made with: Grid 2. Philosopheraptor

 Spoiler:

EDIT: Well, they just played Witcher 3 being streamed and it looked fantastic and ran pretty well (seemingly).
