Quote: | PCGN: Finally, and I'm sure I'm the first person to ask you this, but everyone has responded really well to the HD rerelease of Resident Evil Remake – are there plans to continue the series of HD remakes?
Michiteru Okabe: Hmm, well which one do you want? I'll do my best to make sure it gets made.
PCGN: Oh right, well, Resident Evil 2 please.
Michiteru Okabe: Alright. I'll see if I can get that through. |

Looks like it has a 1 day exclusivity period, so it's going to be released tomorrow on PC.
The game has got surprisingly (to me) decent reviews given its low budget nature, ~7-8/10, which is in line with how games are being reviewed since the new consoles were released.

I played a bit of it.
No performance issues though the controls can be a bit unresponsive or imprecise but they work, also when the game starts you can only select Quit and New Game so you have to see the intro video and start of the game before you can access the actual options such as the graphical and audio settings and other stuff like key bindings.
(Had to mod the settings ini file anyway to change to the resolution I use with GeDoSaTo but I noticed it was set to 16:9 aspect ratio so I changed that to 16:10 as well, might be important.)
Game starts with a pre-rendered cutscene of some party for this Terra Save company as some sort of anti bio-terror organization with Claire and Moira attending when they get attacked and kidnapped to some test facility.
The game itself starts after this intro sequence (Moira also says Fuck here during the intro cutscene and a bit later into the game she said something like "Ohmigosh, fuck!", not used to hearing actual swearing in these games but that's probably how she is going to be as a sort of angsty teen archetype.) and you wake up in a cell with some strange rusty color coded armband / monitoring device, might be a health indicator.
Cell opens and you do immediately notice cameras placed everywhere (Later on you find a note mentioning how test subjects must be monitored.) and after leaving your cell some few tutorial messages appear telling you how to move and use items and so on.
A bit after that you encounter Moira again and she is let out of her cell, I guess this is where co-op would begin if you have a additional controller or such as it's local only.
Exploring the facility further you find a knife and shortly afterwards a jump scare event introduces the first enemy.
Exploring a bit more you find the classical locked doors both requiring keys and being locked from the opposite side, green herbs also appear and work as they did in the newer games where they heal you or both you and your partner if in close vicinity.
Some uneventful exploration later you find a corpse with some keys and have to procure these and in the process also get a gun, I didn't get much further than this, not much happened but it is probably designed as a tutorial stage.
(It checkpointed a few rooms later, checkpoints are fairly common but don't occur for every room traversed, so I took a break there but I guess actual enemy combat is coming up next.)
From what I've read on the forums it should later on switch to Barry's part of the campaign but I'm unsure about overall length of this first episode.
Already a number of raid mode DLC available too plus those bonus costumes and Hunk and Wesker raid characters plus a map pack, not interested in raid mode personally but I guess Capcom is going to focus most of the DLC into raid mode besides the five actual campaign episodes. (Plus the in-game currency for raid-mode which you can buy more of with actual money if I understood correctly.)

It has nothing to do with the first Revelations so download it and find out like the rest of us. About to start it now.

really ?! So why do they call it revelations2 ?
First revelations wasnt reviewed too well and did not looked too appealing.
This looks like Alan Wake/Alone in the dark for some reason

Because it is a low budget game (also check the launch price: $25 instead of eg RE6's $60) with less "explosive" gameplay, starring characters from the main series in a canon story albeit one that is sandwiched between two already released main RE games and therefore has not been referenced by either of them and as such is of little importance. That is the "Revelations" brand - I guess.
But REv2 has different characters, different setting, different story, different lead platform and from what I understand it plays a bit differently as well compared to 1.
Oh and Revelations was reviewed pretty well - on the platform it was created for, the 3DS. And even on PC best RE since RE4 if you ask me.

This game isn't smooth even when the framerate is at 60. No other MT Framework game had such an issue. I hope they fix it.

Just finished the Claire part. It was very casual. I got two S ranks easily. I could have get 3 S but I am old school RE player so I am scavenging for crap for so long and usually there's nothing there so my completion time was with B rank. Anyway, the game is VERY casual. Its very straight forward. The "puzzles" basically involve to move forward and activate something and then go back and then the enemies spawn lol.. It plays like the first Rev but the turn speed is too high if you turn with the keyboard while you sprint. If you use the mouse its ok. I never encountered any FPS drops though. Everything maxed out except blur turned off (of course), with the variable FPS option. I never saw it being variable. The only drop I had was when I escaped the facility but I guess this was because of the area transition. The game is average AT BEST. Its not scary, its not survival and its not horror. I like the character models though. The enemies are beyond funny btw. It seems they were created by 10 year old.

@warriormax
Thanks for the mini review.
Guess i won't bother with this game for the time. Seeing how performance sucks too for a corridor game
