Thanks for the feedback guys, sounds like against all odds, it's really worth a try. Will delay my (patched) Rome II second attempt and will launch myself into this one instead. (Only ISO for now of course though Razz)

you guys should check out the new GemFX for Attila, it makes the game so much prettier:

There must be something seriously wrong with your eyes. That screenshot looks utter shite.

Yeah not to my taste either thats why I made my own tweaks. It can look awesome with a few tweaks.

If anyone wants to try my Gem attempt the file is here:

http://www.filedropper.com/gemfxbsham

I've gone mainly for colour and brightness and think I did a rather splendid job lol. Try it you got nothing to lose. Preview pics below:

Just put it in your current folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Total War Attila\GEMFX\Presets\current) and delete the current one in there with my file.

you need to patch one of the steam files to unlock the dlc.

So I'm assuming it's not doable on a yarr'ed version? Or is the patched file floating around somewhere and I just didn't notice?

What the hell is up with morale in this game?

I was in a minor town battle, with the defenders more or less beaten back - their general was dead, and all they had left were 3 units of archers against my more than half dozen melee units (granted mine were about half-way dead).

All my men literally had to do was walk up hill to the town center and capture the point (while their archers were pulling back in a completely different direction). The remainder of my army was more or less routed by a single rickety stick shit tower that they apparently lacked the courage to run past on their easy road to victory.

Battle lost.

Vikings my fucking ass.

PRE vikings tbh.

Troll Face

Seems I'm gonna wait like usual for modders to enhance the game - although it sounds a bit more promising than before. Just recently tried rome 2 again(free week) and it was meh. BUT Dei mod actually made it worth, it's amazing what they can do.

Attila could possibly be worth now(iso ofc), but instead of risking a empire feeling, I can make sure I get a shogun 2 feeling(waited years before playing it, like I'm semi doing with rome 2)

I wouldn't mind having a cracked version released sometime at the weekend, as it seems like I'd have some free time to play, for a change. However, with the online-only encyclopedia, I might have to resort to actually buying this one. And I will eventually because the game sounds and looks great.

You can look for the current crack and check if your CPU is supported, as the encyclopaedia does apparently work. Running the game as admin and waiting a bit during the intro seems to make it behave Wink And you can even play online with a steam_appid from a different game from what I've seen.

Yeah, but from what I've read on that certain other forum, the "crack" is unreliable at best. I'd rather wait for a proper release, DLC included.

Thanks for the advice, though.

Encyclopedia has always worked for me. The random crashing in battles because of the crack is the annoying thing.

Defo an unreliable crack though as you said but it's pretty good.

EDIT: Crack been fixed for me by the guy who cracks it. No crashes, nothing. All you gotta do is state your CPU and attach a CPU-Z report, he updates it, sends you the file then it works properly.

WTF is this all about:

That's my cores on the campaign map. And my FPS on the campaign map is 12 despite all cores being over 80%. Anyone else getting this? Battle map is fine, but campaign map my CPU can't breath...That's an 8350 @4.5GHz

Fixed it. SSAO didn't change anything. Found out it was shadows after some playing about. I changed shadows from max quality to quality and now my cores are at 23%:

Something's not right in AMD optimisation somewhere. How can changing one setting make all 8 cores go from over 80% usage down to 23%? It makes no sense

Did you experience this before the "fixed" crack, too? I suspect that might be the culprit...

I never touched the campaign map stuff before I got the fix so not sure, but wouldn't be suprised if the crack did do something like that. I was just pissing about with custom battles for hours on end before cause I'm sad like that lol.

Don't mean to make you utterly paranoid, but there was a post on rin saying that one version of the fix actually contained a bitcoin miner. Very Happy You might wanna check that, as it should explain the abysmal CPU usage.

The guy who did mine is legit. He's cracked loads of CPU's on the steam underground forum. He's always active on there. Can give you a link to the forum if you want a crack. My CPU usage is alright now though even though it's odd how one shadow setting can max out every core.

Sam2k8 did mine.

Same. I wasn't a big fan of Rome 2 but I'm really enjoying this one.

Good. I got Attila from GamersGate (won with twitter stuff, 10 days of giveaways or something) so I might try it someday to test it pre-patched and some months later play it the proper way Very Happy

Well, it looks better than Rome2 and runs better for me with even higher settings as long as Shadows are at least set to Max. Performance. Off would propably net even better results.

It's strange since they look just as bad as Rome2's, but they don't affect my performance at all in it. In Attila they certainly do.

It's a small price I gladly pay for about 50-60 fps on the campaign map (which is impossible for me in Rome2 somehow) and solid 30-40+ fps in battles (zoomed out, about 20-30+ zoomed in the majority of time).

CPU is an stock i5-2500k (Turbo on) and these settings (res is 1080p):

(Notice my tiny VRAM and Texture settings Laughing Must be magic that it barely impacts my performance. Terrain Detail and Shadows seem the craziest hogs for me, lowering/deactivating shadows seems better though because Terrain Detail has a much higher impact on visual quality. Everything below Quality looks like complete shit.)

Oh and don't mind the shitty Benchmark they got in the game... same as with Rome2. Doesn't represent at all how the game will run in actual practice when you play it. Yes, that includes zooming in here and there.

More demanding than Rome 2. A lot of AMD CPU users are getting poor performance, some Intel users are but mostly AMD guys. My performance could be a lot better so hoping for some patches. I really need to stop buying AMD CPU's they never perform well on freshly released games.
