I really don't get why this movie was so highly praised... weird, and wtf worthy.... What the hell was that ending about.... Ugh.. |
The ending is my only point of critique. Also the scene
Spoiler: |
where he jumps off the roof. I was so sure it was his suicide seen through his eyes, as there was a witness up there trying to prevent him from jumping. There's zero clue that this was just in his head.
The next scene he lands 'next' to the theatre, but you see the taxi he used in reality (and the angry taxi driver, because he didn't pay ), so they handled that part a bit better.
But yeah, I thought the movie ended right there
The ambiguity and the fantasy elements in general weren't necessary for this movie, I thought. But I guess they needed this footage for the trailer.
|
|
Spoiler: | It's just my take, and I'm probably deadly wrong but I believe that anything that happened after the on stage accident is not real. The scene in the hospital has that ethereal sense of perfection that functions as closure, with the incredibly positive review from the critic (who in reality leaves the show as soon as Riggan shoots himself), the wife being by his side, the daughter bringing him the right flowers, not to mention the final smile when she's looking up instead of where physics should have led the body.
Because Riggan had obviously no actual powers, the super-natural scenes were just part of his (awesome ) imagination, the transition is noticeable especially during the taxi scene and after his agent walks in the room while he throws stuff around with his hands.
Another great cue is the fact that after the accident, there's the first cut in the movie (with the dreamy sequence), which in my opinion could also very well signify the end of Riggan's life. |

Miles Teller was actually decent. He wasn't good, but he wasn't bad either, the one who stood up the most was obviously J.K. Simmons. Still, Teller is pretty young, he'll only get better. (hopefully)

Interstellar 7/10. It was decent, not as good as contact or gravity imo.. didnt like the actors that much, not even McConaughey (which i usually love) really did it for me i have to say, probably not their acting, it was more a problem with chemistry and the characters, they felt really shallow for the most part.. In Contact i think the interaction between the characters (many which are extremely great and unforgettable) is absolutely stellar, for example David Morse and the young Ellie.

Hmm well if he's doable then I should give it a chance. And yeah I'm not entirely writing him off, he's young so there is still hope for improvement. I just think they bring some of these younger actors out a bit too soon (naturally there are always exceptions).
Thanks btw, both of you

Found it really great, especially for a movie with so few characters.. It's not hard to understand the high imdb score or the many great reviews it got.. Contact is one of the best sci-fi moves ever, really great mix of mystery and sci-fi + great casting, everyone feels like they belonged there, didn't get that with Interstellar, very shallow and overall weak characters that i really didn't care much for.

Dayum. Must be pretty underwhelming and disappointing then |
This. Gravity is one of the most overrated movies of the last 10 years. The casting especially was a disaster. The acting was atrocious.

Contact was booooooooooooooooring and Gravity was overhyped, pretty but left bad aftertaste.

While I disagree about Interstellar somewhat (I liked it a lot), "Contact was crap"?

Twats saying Contact was crap/boring!
Then again tastes differ, but I wouldn't put Gravity along with Contact. Gravity was just space porn, like lotr is landscape porn.

I also agree, Gravity, and Inception, are to me, the most overrated movies of at least the last 5 years.. |
gravity is a cinema movie. I've seen it in the cinema and was on the edge of my seat all the time. Loved it. My father too.
But never erwatched it on pc or in oculus

I too liked Contact, I watched it quite recently for the first time, and still holds up fairly well. It's nothing outstanding of course, and it has some cheesy moments (typical of the 90s ), but it's competent, and the special wormholes are still okay, considering the old age.
Gravity on the other hand, all hat and no cattle, sadly. That kind of pseudo-drama managed to put me off completely despite the eye candiness
