|
 |
After reading the forums, I've noticed that the latest games (X3, UFO for example) while playable require that you disconnect the CD/DVD drive IDE cable before using SFN and SFcure.
While at least one user noted that his DVD ROM drive is disconnected almost all the time, i guess that to most of us this is an annoying procedure requiring to shut down the PC and rebooting whenever you wish to play/burn/play a legit game.
My question is twofold:
1. How does windows react to "Hotswapping" of the DVD drive? Should i expect a disaster if i act lazy and disconnect the drive while windows is up?
2. How about some modding? is it possible to make some external button/device that will disconnect the IDE cable without opening the case (even if it still requires a shutdown)?

i suppose where all just hopeing and crossing our fingers
tis the reason im not messing around unpluging any ide cables..
but theres got to be a good reason for the delay of daemon tools..
as there isnt a problem getting around any of the other protections
safedisk
securrom
should only be around a week left for the release if things go well...............

Well, the starforce version that came on SCCT did not require me to unplug the IDE cable, then came along UFO and X3 that did require that.
If i understand correctly, Starforce gets upgraded and the changes affect older games using starforce so i guess SCCT will also require me to disconnect the cable (did not try it yet).
If this is true, then DT4 might be able to emulate SF but it may become usless the minute a new SF version will be out...
That would mighty suck...

If the DT devs really know how to emulate starforce, I bet they'll upgrade DT too. IMO it's the question of the method - if you get a grip of it, you can bypass newer versions faster.
I just fear, that DT4 does not emulate SF or sometimes works for someone, like the SFcure images.
Anyway, I would like to play those games without this stupid cable unplugging.

You can uninstall Starforce anytime and install the older version which came with the game. So there will never be a problem with an older SF3 version, only new versions (new patch/new game) are problematic.

and go through at least 2 reboots each time...
Someone said here before that SF serves to separate the n00bs and the more advanced users, in the sense that some people will not have enough knowledge to go through the various processes to run such game.
To me SF is becoming more and more like a motorcycle chain. you can use whatever chain you want to secure your bike, a thief dedicated enough will eventually break it and steal your bike.
The chain is not there to prevent theft. it is there to deter the less stubborn thieves.
I suspect this will divide games into "Sponge Worthy" and non sponge worthy...

from my point of view, it will separate the noobs and the advanced users, as i had to rebuild another windows xp on another hard drive, to manage to have sfcure to work fine. and it might be a good thing for the scene, when the mass was not using cracked games (amiga and atari years), the crackers were not that sued and jailed.

hyperos is a brill util to let you manage your windows,
all you do is partition your drive to as many operating systems you would like.
so you could set each one up with its own particular game with the version of starforce,,
so if you mess that system up , boot to your main operating system , delete the one thats messed up and drag your system image back on ,and try again...........
you would leave your main system intact with no starforce on.....
and you only have to install one operating system..
you use that system to drag on to the other partitions
and each one is its own independent system...
