in arma 3 fxaa works well on good screen rez and then u just up the sharpen slider
its not always crap. Unfortunate that I can not find many games allowing me to use my DSR options on card though right now.

I am playing on 1080p with everything on max and smaa 2tx perfectly no stuttering. BUT the 4gb vram are pretty loaded with about 3,5-3,7gb! Maybe that causes stuttering on some 2-3gb cards?! ^^

Im on a gtx760, and anything beyond medium will be a stuttering mess, i guess this game needs a 3-4gb card, wich is ridiculous, i run bf on ultra with no problems, far cry 4 and other games, this game is not THAT intensive, is it?..

Well its the bad Cryengine. Bf4 nor Far Cry use it. Cryengine is always difficult.
What I dont like about the game SO FAR is that the hunter is everything. You need the hunterdick to trap the monster. If he fails or dies the shit is steaming....

Just did a test, this game on low textures, is consuming 1.6gb vram.. so yeah, its gonna stutter on some systems even on medium with 2gb cards..

So is it a worthy successor of L4D?

It's a very different game despite the obvious similarities. What I ike about it in its current state is that you need effective teamplay in order to stand a chance against a decent monster, as it should be (Wraith needs a nerf of some sort though, seems severely OP on first-second impression). It can still do with a few tweaks.
In conclusion the game in itself is very well worth it, very entertaining and rewarding when played with the right people (just like L4D), but if you don't like the mechanics (very different to L4D series) then you won't enjoy it as much.

Imagine the tank fight in l4d, thats like 15% of the gameplay, now this game is those 15% on repeat, like forever.. except theres a little bit more tatics involved in taking out the "tank" aka monster.

Areius wrote: | So, here's my two cents after getting to level 5.
The game looks amazing and has a great atmosphere and the map design is great. What I have problems with is the pace and balancing of the game. The biggest issue is the speed of the monster vs the speed of the hunters. Even though the monster has sneaking ability it is completely useless as it's walking speed is a lot higher than the hunters. Thus, the current mode is like 90% tracking the monster and 10% getting raped as most monsters are level 3 by then. For balancing I would like the monsters speed reduced and / or the feeding / evolve time greatly increased. Also, the entire team needs to work together against the monster. Which is great if you have a good team but 9 out of 10 games you have a noob in your team that isn't helping, like a medic shooting the monster instead of healing teammates. It should be a bit more forgiving for these matches to get a more consistent chance as the monsters win too often. Only when you are lucky and you track a noob monster after a few minutes you can win easily. Another issue I have with the game is the large number of (waiting) screens/menus. If it was reduced by 50% I still think it would be on the high side. |
I would say that level 5 is not yet enough to play as the Hunter on a good level. I played quite many hours in the Big Alpha (got to somewhere between 20 and 30 there) and I would say that you would need to be at least around Level 10 to get the hang of it. More imporant is that no one on your team is around Level 1, because if only one of the Hunters has no clue what to do against a decently experienced monster you have no chance.
But I would agree that the learning curve for playing the hunters successfully is quite steeper than for the monster.
As for the monster speed. Yes it is faster, because if it wasn´t it would have absolutely no chance. As a side note here there are many ways to become faster/make the monster slower. The third medic character has a speed boost skill which boosts all the hunters by quite much. Also you should use your Jet Boost as often as possible. If the monster is in plain sight Val can slow it via Tranquilizer quite by much.
But lets say you pick the standard 4 hunters. So you have Daisy who follows the monster in the direction where it is. However you cant be blindly following it because as you already said the monster is faster. You have to predict where the monster is going. Use the map often (M for keyboard, Select/Back on controllers) and you will notice that at any dead end the monster will have to go around, and the most monsters always use the more open path of the 2. so you should move to that point instead of following Daisy straight and shortly before the dead end spread around all different paths to spot the monster.
Sound is also very important: monster footsteps and trees falling. Also check for flayed wildlife. The monster is most likely to avoid going the same path back and forth. The birds are also very important but again dont go straight towards them but more towards the place you expect it to run to. Most maps are pretty small so the Monster will be running against dead ends quite frequently. And those maps that are big are mostly open so when the Monster gets much armor you can spot it quite easily.
And if you DO find it, absolutely do not make it know that you found it. DO NOT shoot it unless all your teammates are near. for the biggest surprise use the Team Cloak Ability of the support to get close and use mortar strike while its feeding on its prey, followed by a Dome.
I can tell you that a decent player will almost always win against a monster who never sneaks.
Now for the sneaky bastard monster who only runs on water or fakes his paths via running thats a different story. But since you did not complain about sneaking I dont have to give any hints there
Thats my 2 cents, sry for long post
edit: oh also I cant say much about the Wraith yet, because Ive not yet encountered it. And Ive read that its too op. However I can assure you that this works for the Goliath and the Closed Beta Kraken. Big Alpha Kraken was too OP as well but got nerfed hard, so I assume the same will be done to the Wraith as well.

But the monster is eating shit. Very often. Therefore the speed is no problem if you head in the right direction. The monster will pause many times and then you can trap and fuck it!

With the feeding Perk (+37% faster feeding) and using skills on wildlife instead of normal attacks you will still always be ahead of the hunters it they keep following you straight.
