Just because you do not get XP does not mean you do not get anything from combat. |
Straw man right there.. Why want loot if you get everything from a quest |
Diablo/MMO-like loot with Sword of Eldritch Abomination +4 being dropped by random orcs because some behind-the-scenes RNG said so? Yes, fuck that "loot", preferably with Sword of Eldritch Abomination +4. Same goes for random peasant giving out quest rewards that are conveniently scaled to your "Half-Conan" level.
However, if loot (aside from story-driven examples) is at least partially related to a type of encounter, then it is still superior as a combat reward - you get something that is not abstract number that pretends to illustrate your faux-progression. You get a Sword of Eldritch Abomination +4 because that character you killed actually used it and it is... lying right there. It's specific enough not to move "loot" to questgiver.
Compared with that, "combat xp", that represents pretty much everything related to your level, is nowhere near specific at all. With that in mind, you can relegate it pretty much anywhere. And that's before we're even talking story, character or lore that can act as an explanation.

??
He encountered some mobs, pulled them to his team, fight started, at some point he got level up (he literally said that).
I heard you are gaining exp by encountering new mob or something, ridicilous that you get xp just by looking at mobs instead of killing (and maybe examining) them (assuming its true, obviously).

Ridiculous how you get XP for crossing over to a new area instead of fully exploring every square inch of the new area.

This confirms that people only complain just to complain. Xp from area to area compared to whole zone discovered. What difference does it make?

They said there were gunpowder firearms during the Kickstarter. It's not exactly a secret.

Arcanum had guns too. It's not much different shooting with a musket than throwing fireballs anyway. At least this will make things more varied and different.

Tried it out last week and was a bit disappointed, could be I wasn't in the mood for the game...
I'll try again on release, but yeah wasn't that impressed with it.

@Morphineus
Same here.. I liked DOS and Wasteland 2 more than POE and they seem to have much more to offer... I know, I know, it's beta and shit but still..
1) Lenovo Legion 7 (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, RTX 3080 16Gb, 32Gb DDR4, SSD 1TB +2TB
2) SFFPC (streaming via Moonlight+ Sunshine)

I think it's the unfortunate art direction and interface that is somehow disappointing a bit, atleast for me it is. Because both Divinity and W2 had a clear art direction
which felt very appropriate for the setting and yet fresh enough to see that they were games developed now (DOS especially).
But you could mistake PoE for 3D Infinity Engine game. It's just a bit uninspired.
Although I have no doubt the writing will be leaps and bounds beyond W2 and D:OS but I guess you could say both those
games never had writing as their main focus but still..
1 and 2 are still amazing.

That's the point. They wanted to make a modern Infinity Engine-style game with the same kind of aesthetics.

The world looks dead though..it's like a beautiful still picture..well, with rare exceptions like some stuff moving here and there.

They even made mouse cursor look like the one infiniti games had.

That's my main concern too. I mean... it's... really static. And, tbh, it's not really beautiful either... You wanna see beautiful? Look at Tides of Numenera!
Also, if you go back to the good old Baldur's Gate games (Icewind Dale(s) also) you won't have the same feeling.
Not good, man! Hopefully the story/gameplay will add some dynamic and engaging elements to it.
