Yeah that's exactly it. They will likely never take that all-round crown back from Intel, but specifically for gaming they may just become extremely good value for money.

My PC:
- i5 760 (4c) @ 4.2 GHz
- 2x4 GB DDR3-1600 @ 9-9-9-24, 1.50V

The AMD system:
- FX-8320 (8c) @ 4.4 GHz (this is far from its maximum, I have no doubt that it'll do 4.8-5.0 with ease, but alas it's not my own system so I can't be bothered right now Laughing)
- 2x4 GB DDR3-1600 @ 8-8-8-24, 1.35V

GPU in both cases: GTX 680 (DCU2) @ +150 core, +220 memory (1175 mV, K-Boost "on" in Precision, which means that Boost is off ). Same driver for both. Only difference is that my system runs on Windows 8 atm, instead of 7. Both x64.

Here's the important one: http://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/957572/fs/953096

I'm not sure where the 13 MHz difference in GPU clock according to them comes from.

So, note the difference in physics score obviously. It can most likely get well over 9k or even hit 10k with another bump to the clockspeed. So from that perspective, it does have a lot more grunt than an i5 thanks to the core count. However, for gaming? Makes no difference - graphics tests don't differ one bit and in the combined test it actually fell behind the i5. Unless it's Brokenfield 4 until that gets patched. Running it fixed at 4.4 made quite a big difference in BF4; it gave me 1-2 more FPS, but more importantly the FPS was more stable than it was on my i5 afterwards. Game still runs like crap, but it's something Razz

It's going to be interesting to see a CPU comparison (although I hope some site actually tests at 1080p/1440p with a reasonable GPU instead of dual fucking Titans) once they fix whatever is wrong, as it is the first game that really can use all 8 cores. That said, even my now ancient i5 760 still keeps up with it just fine, so no, 8 cores are not necessary just yet.

The other 2 tests for completeness' sake:
Cloud Gate: http://www.3dmark.com/compare/cg/862763/cg/859925
Ice Storm: http://www.3dmark.com/compare/is/969519/is/966353

Note how Ice Storm seems to somehow be CPU bound on the AMD setup, not sure what happened there. Cloud Gate on the other hand is reversed, entirely in favour of the AMD setup.

After reapplying the paste on my 3570K I have rebenched my system with a new personal record:

Fire strike ePeen length: 7574

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/1396534?

3570K @ 4.6Ghz
7950 @ 1175/1650

I have no idea why 3DMark only shows 1024MB on the 7950, but whatever. These settings are for benchmarking only. Normally I'll run my 3570K @ 4.5Ghz and the 7950@ 1155/1650 to have perfect stability and better temps.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Nice scores guys Smile

Just ran this aswell with my "summer" 24/7 gaming clocks (cpu is at 4.7Ghz @ 1.35V, SP 120 fans are running at 800rpm so they are dead silent and BF4 gaming load is below 60c). GPU is at stock voltage 1241 core / +500 mem (Far Cry 3 stable which is the ultimate torture test for GK110 chips, rest games runs at nearly 1300 core).

Firestrike: 10220

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/1396841

When winter hits ill go back to usual 5Ghz CPU (which is not gonna make any difference in anything, its just nice to see CPU @ 5000mhz Laughing)

I couldn't resist the low prices and went from the 560Ti Hawk to the Asus 280X. Haven't tried to overclock it yet. The CPU was slightly less OC'd with the 560Ti.

9253 pouints with my poor old i7 920 Laughing

Ok I cheated a little bit :

i7 920 @ 4.0GHz/20x200Bclk/1.35Vcore (2.6-2.8 GHz stock, but hey, I got a C0 stepping)
Gigabyte GTX 780 GHz edition
Asustek P6T Deluxe X58
Cooling : Corsair H100i liquid solution (36C° idle / 75C° OCCT)

Fuck Yeah

This H100i rocks !
and with Noctuas F12 it is quite silent.

Might wanna find out why your graphics score is 300 lesser in the first place Wink
(and i don't mean the total score btw, since i got i7 it's unfair) http://www.3dmark.com/fs/765644

Just put +100 on both cores and you should overtake them.

that's the max i was able to get with gpu tweak. As you can see, voltahe setting is very limited (only allows increase of 0.012 volt max) Anyway, higher memory gives artifacts and higher clock freezes.

cpu : 4.4ghz gpu glock : 1201MHz , memory 7910 MHz

pushing Smile 400 to go lol.

cpu : 4.4ghz gpu glock : 1211MHz , memory 7910 MHz

reduced memory to 7810 MHz, increased Clock by 10 MHz (1221 MHz)

increased Clock by another 10 MHz to 1231 MHz ... finally got over 11700 !

increased cpu to 4422MHz (100.5x44 @ 1.36v) gave me another ... 9 points ^^

101x44@1.36v = 3dmark crashed
102x44@1.36v = bsod
100x45@1.36v = bsod

don't wanna push vcore any higher on air.

increased gpu clock by another 10MHz and voltage to 1.313V (+0.013 total, max i can increase in gpu tweak)

edit : turned out to be not stable

last stable :

CPU :
4400MHz (44x100@1.36V)
GPU :
Clock @ 1250MHz (offset : +139MHz)
Memory @ 7810MHz (offset : +800MHz)
Voltage @ 1212mV (offset : +12mV)
Max temp@ 76C

can't get more out of it with gpu tweak.

So close Smile (The difference of cpu speed clearly is the main factor here hehe).

Was playing around with my GTX 780 and decided to see how far I can push it. This is with 1320mhz stable core clock. Ran firestrike, here are my results:

link: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/2874127

Not a bad result for a GTX 780 single card Smile

Well AMD drivers are really getting better. I've not updated my pc since 2012 and I am getting 5804 score in fire strike now. It's like 100 more each 6 months that's always some free performance (if only it was noticable in games)

btw. I don't want to go too much offtopic but is 55C max stress temperature recorded during firestrike demo on my 4.5 2500k, ok ? I am only getting 1.32 max vcore at peak(using offset on +0.015). My macho120 is running at 1k rpm. I am getting about 35c idling on desktop. Wonder if those are temps results, others are getting.
As for my oc'ed 7870, it's maxing at 55c too. At least that is what hwmonitor says as max recorded temp during fire strike

With 2 980s I get this on Ice Storm:

I'm guessing my CPU is starting to show its age

Don't know how sli scaling works because one gtx970 is getting up to 11k.
So 2 980's should go a little higher than 15k.
That way or another, Who needs all that powah !

From 3665 points to 9153 , I guess that's enough of a firestrike xD
(No overclock yet.. will do it when I effectively need it).

 Spoiler:

Briefly tried other games as well (1080p of course).

Witcher 2: 90+fps, unless I enable the evil Ubersampling, in that case..~42fps because screw you technology xD
Far Cry 4: 60-80fps/Ultra;
Modded Skyrim & New Vegas w/ ENB: always above 60fps, but as always vsync is needed or the animals start flying around and the gaembrio goes crazy;
Metro LL: 70-80fps/Max/DerpX excluding the taxing SSAA;
Arma 3: 60ish fps with reasonably decent distance slider and everything on Very High, FXAA only, SP;
Dragon Ag3: 50-60fps/Ultra, but also some random stuttering, it probably hates my windows seven;
pCars: 60fps vsync'd/Max, SMAA;

Some are left, including the final Boss, the terrifying Unity monster, that will have to wait till the torrent finishes its job (again). So far I'm really really impressed though, damn. Razz

Marvellous stuff ixi! What an enormous jump, I'm really happy for you matey! <3 Definitely look into OCing too, really push that monster! I get 9068 in FireStrike on a heavily (meanwhile Scara sniggers behind his hand Crying or Very sad) OCd 780, so pushing that 970 should dominate

That validation error is funny though. Even the 3dmark help section didn`t clarify much.

I envy. Tho my oced 7870 (7950 levels of powah) and 2500k at 4.5 are still doing fantstic.
Still. That's almost double the performance
