Then it wouldn't be Resident Evil 1. Neutral How about they make an entirely new RE game that you'd like to play instead?

Same requirements as RE6, RE:Rev and RE4. They are just copy pasting them to newer titles - no actual testing being done. Laughing Anyway all of them run very very very good. Smile

Absolutely. It has been ported to a modern engine though (MT Framework 2.0) and as such it "adopts" higher requirements (due to threading, shading and so on).

More dynamic lights and shadows as well I think, possibly some fancy shaders too although I suppose AO might not work that well with 2D backgrounds and FXAA or SMAA would only affect the real 3D geometry.

Sounds good, try to get a review copy of GTA V while you're at it but personally I don't see Rockstar putting in much effort for the PC version. Very Happy
(Sending out separate PC versions for reviews other than perhaps some larger reviewers or some single exclusive deal at best, I could be wrong though.)

FXAAHQ3 should correspond to FXAA 3.11, probably at something like High or Ultra quality in comparison to the old injector for it.

Guess you can't share much info on the actual game either with the NDA on it but it will be interesting to see what you can post when the NDA is over. Smile

In terms of effort it's not barely remastered. Many of the backgrounds have been touched up in photoshop. I've personally seen this with my own eyes by downloading the 360 version and extracting them from the ISO. http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2617086#2617086

Some will look pretty good. And some will look pretty bad. But the vast majority weren't simply run through a filter and used as such.

Not to mention it's been ported to a whole different engine. That's an additional cost.

Oh i remember the memories of me and my friends playing this in my basement in the dark with a nice stereo setup on my Gamecube, the thunder booming sounded so real and loud as we carefully crept through the mansion.

This game is a real gem and im glad that PC gamers get to play it now as well. This is true survival horror!

I miss those games. Very atmospheric, sinister, focused and just done well.
Thankfully we are getting this and already have re4 ultimate (which i am not sure is the best re4 version ? is it ? Is it finally graphically complete with 1.06 patch ? ).
Wish they did the same remake treatment to re2 and 3... or 2 at least

btw. Is 60fps re4 ultimate still messed up ? and as far as I remember, It is better to play with original textures, rather than "hd" ones in menu, right ? sorry for mixing games

One thing that annoys me in the screens above... anyone with decent Photoshop knowledge could redo those backgrounds to make them HD. Upscaling them and then overlaying and editing new textures in + adjusting the light wouldn't really be a hard task. Especially if you have other 3D models that you could also use for capturing stills + Photoshopping. It's not like there isn't a plethora of cheap assets out there that could be utilised either.

If you could stop thinking that you alone are so much more clever than the entire staff of professional game developers who worked on this game for months, you might discover that that's exactly what they did (relevant bit at 2:25):

Most of the hundreds of backgrounds were upscaled, filtered, and then individually retouched by hand in Photoshop. Some of the environments had new real-time polygonal elements and lighting added on top, and a few were remade entirely from scratch in real-time 3D.

And yes, it really does look a hell of a lot better than the backgrounds simply being upscaled, as demonstrated here in a comparison between the Gamecube version upscaled with no further processing, and the re-release (and this video shows the PS3 version, which I think only outputs 720p, so the PC version looks even better):

People acting like this was release is a slapdash shoveled-out cash-in can get bent. No, it's not the ideal re-release where they re-render the original assets from the GC release, but given the nature of 3D modeling at the time, and the 12 years of software rot in the meantime, it's entirely understandable that that's simply not feasible. This is still the best version of the game, bar none.

I said so myself, although not every single problematic background was touched, some bad ones unfortunately went through with no improvements.
