PostPosted: Sun, 4th Jan 2015 16:25    Post subject: Last day at work
For past 2 and half years I've been working as machines operator and last year as a logistics guy(same shift and workplace, just different functions). Tonight is my last night at this position ! Last 12h night shift for me. Finally I will be working 8am to 4 pm hours shifts.
12h shifts have their pros and cons. After two 12h night shifts, you get 3 days off and then 2 day 12h shifts and 1 day off. Same routine for almost 3 years. 6am to 6pm or 6pm to 6am. I hated getting up at 5am... Overall I liked this work and people there but I was constantly tired all the time. Its just what 12h day and night shifts do to You after long time.

On Wednesday I am starting as coding engineer and data generation in the same company. Better salary, hours, office and finally it's not a physical work. And most importantly it prooves that it is possible to go from basic operator up the ladder, without knowing anyone important and just by hard working.... And studying.

Don't want to sound like proud selfish dick. Just very happy it all worked out after many tries

Tbh I would work something that I get lower salary but I do little to nothing Laughing 12 hours shift - lol no mate. I prefer to get half of the salary for that but at least I will just lay/sit doing nothing. This happened to me already though. Last time I refused 1k+ salary job for 500$ job because in the first job I had to sit on a desk the whole day doing some shit, while in the second job I just sit or walk around doing nothing unless some retard comes and I have to guide him for 10 sec, after that - party time

Thanks. Oh warriormax. Now I had pretty hard work. The one I am starting is supposed to be super light and stress free. Its one of most desired positions in the company. You just generate whitelist files in front of a computer Very Happy
At least this is what they say. There are only 3 Other coding engineers in the company and its a big 400+ people company. I know it's not all pink candies but I am going there to work after all.
Guess I will see how that work is exactly soon. But I can hardly imagine anything more stressing and requiring hard work than what I was doing until know. And the pay is like 40 percent better. And that is only in introduction period Very Happy

The purpose of having a job is to rest there, imo. Because you are getting tired doing other activities while at home/with friends you know. Basically, your job should be a resting place. You rest and you get paid for that! Awesome, isn't it.

2 x 12 hrs, then 3 days off, then 1 x 12 hrs, then 1 day off sounds pretty fucking awesome to me.

if i have to work 40 hrs a week, i d gladly get it done in 3 days then have 4 days off, that would be my dream job.

So I am after first day of my new work.

WTF AM I DOING. WHAT IS THIS WHAT IS THAT Laughing
Basically I will be generating files from files that client sends us. But it's not just input and output folder. Holy shit there is a lot of stuff that have to be done with those files. All very crucial information and mistakes would be fucking terrible. It's all so abstract to me but seems ok in a long run. Come to work. answers emails from 9-10am, list of tasks autogenerates at 10am, I am taking the list and going to other room where generating pc's are. Do what I have to do with those files and done. Some files take 20-30 minutes to process, others might take a day or two! There are 3 data generation guys total in the company (me included). We have 3 pc's each. All nicely organized.

The office is pretty great and working hours are even better than I've expected. It is 8-16 on paper but most people are coming to work 8:15-20 or whatever. nobody gives a fuck about anything. Not only my work seems much slower but nobody is fucking standing above me with a whip. On a production, not only, i've worked 12hour shifts but they forbidded everything and were constantly rushing you. I felt like a lowest life form (tho I wasnt as a logistics). Here it feels pretty surreal... like other category of human. wtf.... This makes me sad. From a production pov, we always thought that it can't be that much better and we only see it that way but nope. It actually is pretty good. Or it is just me, because I've never had a middle class 8h office job.

it's only been first day and my view is prolly very skewed but so far I like it. It's heaven and hell compared to production hall work. We even have a fucking coffe maker... while on a production YOu can't go out and can't drink tea.
Now they will even pay my phone bills Laughing

Congrats, mate. Real happy for you. You've earned it, honestly, especially after all the whipping and rushing. You will learn to love the office job. Much less accident prone and it also sounds like you have some time to fuck around while something is processing.

Thanks again.
It's really abstract thing to explain but i am starting to get a gist of it after a week now.
It's Data Generation for production batches from config files they send us. Many different methods, clients. Very weird stuff. But general idea is to, do the generation magics and encrypt the hell out of all the files. And we dont always know what products those are for. Mostly its stuff for pre personalization of id cards of all sorts or prepaid sim cards. I can't really talk anything more about it Wink

And generation takes it's time, corresponding to complexity of information which have to be generated from config input files... and ofc corresponding to number of units there will be in batches. AND, sure. We have couple of pc's to work on, but there are plenty of security rules and hardware limitations, so sometimes not all pc's can be occupied by generation. if it's taking a long time, then great
It's something that requires a lot of practice to master but the company is just great and don't put pressure on me like when I was a production worker. just pros of normal office work I guess. Simple stuff, like that we have coffe maker, tea, nobody is counting our break time (but also there is no point in leaving the office since we can eat and drink there). I just dont feel the whip on my back like I did at all times.
Sure, that might all change like tomorrow Laughing It is only my first week, so I still might be under "change" effect
