Totally agreed. Dragonfall (even the basic version) was a giant leap for Shadworun. Now, like Sabin said, maybe we'll get something more open in the vein of the old SNES game.

Perfect setting. Very Happy I recently started playing Dragonfall DC, and I'm astounded by the amount of improvements if compared to the "vanilla" Shadowrun. If they keep improving, it will be amazing.

Very cool choice for a setting and more Shadowrun is always nice Smile DMS was good, Dragonfall was fantastic, DC was even better... they've got a record of a steady improvment. But even if the formula doesn't change much, anything with Dragonfall's quality of writing is VERY welcome in my book. One of the best stories of 2014 for sure and with perfectly captured Shadowrun feel and atmosphere to boot. Bring it on, I'll be happy to send a few $ your way! Smile

Let's hope for a new expansion, too. Like one with another setting (Shanghai - for a tie-in, Neo Tokyo for that japanese cyberpunk flavor, or more american - Boston, Chicago, Miami or Washington).

Hong Kong campaign \o/

Yup, Hong Kong indeed.. and it seems it's called "Shadowrun: Hong Kong" too.

I haven't played the DC yet, but Dragonfall *itself* was marvellous. However! Don't start on Dragonfall, start on Dead Man's Switch - the first/original campaign. They're only loosely connected but it will be hard to go back to DMS once you've played the refinements from DF. DMS is *damned* good though, really well worth playing through before you head on to DF.

Yeah that's what I though, if I start with Dragonfall I couldn't "degrade" to the first one Very Happy Guess I'll see and start with DMS then. Thanks Sabin Smile

Definitely start with DMS Smile There's supposedly a way to convert DMS into Dragonfall DC - to make use of some new mechanics, new UI and so on - but I'm not sure if it works. The easiest way is probably to get Shadowrun Returns and play DMS in its original state and then also get Dragonfall DC - and play Dragonfall that way. There are many good changes DC brings to the campaign (companion advancement, additional quests etc. - in addition to the stuff above).

Is it just me or are the loading times horrific in dragonfall? There was one area which I wanted to clear in complete silence/stealth and I had to reload to try and get by guards, it literally took me 15 minutes in load-time in total. Sad

Loading times in Dragonfall Director's Cut were definitely longer than the regular version of Shadowrun Returns, but not 15 minutes for me. Maybe like 2 minutes on my SSD which is ridiculous.

The loading times could go upwards 2 minutes per load (I meant I accumulated 15 minutes together trying to make a perfect run). But that didn't happen everytime tho, just booted up the game and it loaded perfectly, only after an hour (or two) did it start to slow down. Sad

Might be something with the Unity engine, probably some form of memory leak.

Found a post about it on the Steam forums where some other users reported similar things and one of the developers said they were looking into it but that was several months ago.

I haven't played Director's Cut yet, but I don't remember loading times being particularly bad in DMS/DF, so I'm not sure. Could be a Director's Cut thing?

Loading times for me is pretty fast in both, 8-15 seconds. DMS actually seems a bit slower, but i've only tested the first 2 areas in Dragonfall, maybe they're really small compared to the rest.

Lots of RAM can help a ton, especially when you reload an area / savegame (most / all of it is still in RAM).

That's Unity for you. It's a nice engine and it's good for hobbyists, but it's just such a pain in the arse to run, both in terms of performance and overall usability.

When I start up the game it loads the maps quite fast but as time passes and the game progresses the load-times go up. I checked RAM usage but it doesn't go above 4GB (out of 8 total). Anywho, it was just a minor annoyance and I've already finished the game (really awesome, especially the ending(s) ). Very Happy

We don't know yet, just that it's "Shadowrun: Hong Kong". It could be a whole new game with improved gameplay or it could be a Dragonfall-esque expansion campaign. I'll be happy with either though I obviously would like some more meat Very Happy

Since they're once again turning to fans, I'd prefer it to be something more substantial - like an actual sequel. I'll be happy with an expansion too, though, obviously Very Happy Truth be told, it's mostly semantics. Dragonfall DC already kinda felt like a sequel in comparision to base Returns.

What's improved in DF? I think i'm giving up on this, despite the fact that i love the setting and the dialogue (huge cyberpunk fan). It's just way too "robotic" / static. It feels like a combat sim with some point & click adventure scenes thrown in here and there for the story.

Better tactical combat info (gives accurate bonus for staying in cover etc), team members with their own story (actually interesting stories) and their own quests regarding their stories, general more interesting dialogue regarding your team members.

Basically they kept the same game play with some fine tuning but improved the team member "atmosphere" significantly.

And some of the "city side quests" can be damn interesting too. A few have later consequences based on your actions.

The story is also much better and filled with turns and surprises. I mean, I liked DMS - it had a cool noir feel about it and I enjoyed it a lot. Well, at least the first half (the rest wasn't equally good). But Dragonfall is just on another level altogether. It deals with many interesting themes, it's also very mature, morally ambiguous, and somewhat harsh - doesn't waste much time in telling you shit just got real Razz

The "static" feel probably won't change, tho. It's a story-driven game, there's little to no exploration and most of the atmosphere is created through writing. The main locations change a few times througout the story, so it's a little better than DMS in this regard - it creates a feeling something is moving, changing. But it's mostly pretense - you still won't see stuff like, for example, moving NPCs in areas (I've got no idea why).

I hated DMS, it is basically Shadowrun quest 101 with all the shit from the world they could stick into it.
But I love Dragonfall. Better atmosphere, story, characters, quests, morals.

Engine limitation Sad Not "Unity", but the implementation they used to create the game itself. There are plenty of fan made mods with moving NPCs but they use the turn based system, so in areas with a dozen NPCs you spend so much time sat and waiting for each NPC to take their "turn" Another hopeful change for the upcoming KS campaign, rather than just being a new campaign (though again, I really wouldn't mind) we hope for some much needed engine upgrades and changes.
