Don't forget VoiceAttack and the EliteDangerousVoicePack too.
Seriously, the commodities stuff reminds me of X2/X3 and it absolutely SHOULD be in the base game by default. Hell, all the ship responses should be in by default even without the voice commands.. it would be awesome to lower landing gear and hear the computer confirm it. For $5, that voice/response pack is a bargain.
I haven't tried the voice attack software, i tried the webcam tracking thingymajig and it was alright I suppose. For now Im making do just with my joystick etc, I'll wait for consumer oculus to go to the next step.
Enjoying the game despite its barebones state as discussed over and over here, keeping an eye to see what they do to progress. There are a few bits which already are like WTF to me namely rare goods but hey ho.
Oculus on this or any other space sim / sim type must be pretty damn awesome. Can't wait to try it.

On games like this and X-Afterbirth, where your UI and console have multiple screens and you can "look" left and right to access even more functionality, some kind of TrackIR or Rift device is damned near essential. ESPECIALLY on the likes of X-Prebirth where the only way to move "head" to look at other UI panels is on the friggin' keypad or hat switch.
Yeah well I'm not using the pseye thing which everyone seems to blabber on about. Got a logitech c920 jobby.
Didnt do any of that infrared stuff just used the basic setup and apart from having to configure all the curves really accurately which I got bored of trying, I felt like the movement felt jerky, like the game was running at 20 fps instead of 60 (which is reported running at)
Probably some setup I missed somewhere. was kinda cool glancing slowly to your right and left when approaching an outpost to land. Naturally it has to be adjusted not 1:1 or you end up looking away from the screen. Hence the rift being the real deal i think.

Fairly sure thats the one. 1.7.2 i think I'd tried using.
I grabbed the pack mentioned on forums plus a patch, the cfg file which i replaced and by default it seems to kick in and work, i.e. it detects my head movements etc. I disabled the roll as tilting the head etc isn't really something i care about much, but the looking around felt like it was low fps as opposed to using the mouse to look around which is smooth as
Re sabin, yep I reckon it's a game changer. Only thing is the display for me, once they've got a really decent res from the display and grounded the specs and fps required for it to run well, i'll grab a new gfx card alongside it. until then im holding back.
I'm waiting for the consumer version. I simply don't have money to burn buying a devkit "1" and then later a devkit "2", when/if I do get one it will be the only one because of the high super-luxury price.

you don't really burn money on them though. i sold mine for a bit more than i payed for it.
DK1s go for 2200kr on the biggest preowned market here. How am I going to make money on that? That's half what they sold for. DK2s are 4200-4500kr. Roughly the same price they sold for and that will drop as time goes on too. I'll stick to my own plan, thanks I'll buy the Consumer Kit when it's out because I don't want to waste money on expensive "interim" gear that loses value. We just don't have the market like other larger countries.
yeah if you keep it for that long obviously the price will go down (why anyone would keep a DK1 except out of pure laziness is beyond me). I kept my DK2 for about 2.5 months, it was enough to test it and see what it was all about, it sold it for maybe 200 SKR more than i bought it for Not much but also not at loss.
I think I'll cook me some food and watch a movie...
but why are you cruising? You should hyperjump when you are at LY distance.
Coz it was in one system. You can only jump to Alpha Centauri, and then go to Proxima Centauri from there. Technically one system, with Alpha being the biggest mass, so the FSD locks on to that.
I'm getting one of those Arduino EDTrackers (http://www.edtracker.org.uk/) - they're very well received in the Elite community and have barely any drift, which can be reset anyway - £30 for the unit, enclosure and braided USB cable. I'll let you know if it's any good

i bought one for my father, whe i tested it, it used JOY Axis, when you moved your head. I'm sure you can get around it, but obviously that replaces the actual axis for the joystick

It's Opentrack compatible,so you can now use it in any Freetrack/TrackIR compatible game
Has been quite nice so far. It just feels totally barren... and very aimless in the beginning.
The starting station had only one mission I could do, transfer something to a next system, and the payout was something like 900 creds.
Instead I went exploring, I saw a... err... unrecognized signal? (whatever it is, those random things you sometimes see (I don't know yet how to 'generate' these, as in do I just fly around in sc mode or what) and there was some pirate which I went on to obliterate. got 'nice' 2.8k from 40 seconds of fighting. But then another pirate appeared who was in an mmh.. Eagle?
Soo.. went on exploring randomly, and ended up in some pirate base (skull holograms on the station) and got a very, very nice mission, I had to carry 2 slaves within the SAME system, for 48k.
So... continued exploration and decided to try these 'black box' missions... flew to the target system aaand... nothing. There nothing there I was flying around for some 20 minutes without seeing anything at all.
Any idea what to do with those missions?
Oh, also had to switch to solo mode at one point... I could not dock into stations anymore (tried some 5-6), I started suddenly getting docking denied. So after googling, it seems it's just that the map is 'full' (which is funny as I never saw players )
Oh and ordered X55 for Christmas

it needs to be added to a firegroup and activated just like a laser
Thanks.
Weird that there was no mention of this in the tutorials provided by the game. (It was only about combat, docking and travelling between systems.
this game is not noob friendly haha. really enjoying my time with it. had a mission to hunt down pirates..spent like 20 minutes finding one... he then says go kill the guys who gave you it, and i said fuck dat and blew his ass up. 6k fine and now i'm wanted. and no money. and his cargo was illegally picked up.
I play with M&K, and it's perfectly playable. Takes a bit to get used to it, but after a while, the joystick would only be good for immersion, they nailed the mouse controls pretty decently.
This post was started way back in Alpha, and the poll has since been closed, without any display of the results... guess too many people said it wasn't very good
