Guise halp, I need a bigger porn drive but researching these things is a nightmare. For every good review I find a bad one, essentially putting me off buying anything at all.

I've had great experiences with Samsung and Hitachi drives, but the former don't make HDDs any more afaik and the latter are like £20 more than the competition.

The other options are Toshiba, WD Green/Red or Seagate. Or is there some other master race HDD manufacturer that I'm not aware of? Is it worth spending the extra for a Hitachi?

tldr: which HDD manufacturer is best? Ideally 3TB. Gief opinions plox Smile

Can't go wrong with Hitachi Deskstar, but if you have a no limits budget, I guess WD Black's the best you can get.

Warranty on Seagate drives scare me to death.

I will only buy WD Black and put them them in RAID 1 just because of 5yrs warranty that they carry.

Got a 3TB from WD which I'm quite happy with.
Always been happy with: Maxtor,WD and Samsung... Seagate for some reason was always a disaster for me. Even when I gave them another chance 3 years ago... again. So fuck em

I'll reconsider if I'm having an unlucky spell with WD, but till then I'll just ignore em.

WD Green or Black (depending on usage, for pure storage Green is enough).

I have a 1TB WD Black... WD1002FAEX (slightly later firmware FAEX instead of EZEX) and yes it's good but it's not worth the price if you're going to use the drive for storing stuff like movies as opposed to be used as an active drive that you use daily to save/read/copy/move/delete files to and from.

If you have the money: definately the WD Reds
But i would stay away from the Greens. Looking at Amazon, they don't seem to live that long and are slow too.

In my server i am using Seagate and Toshiba drives. While they are pretty fast i can't say much about how long they will live Surprised

http://www.pcgamer.com/seagate-now-shipping-260-8tb-hdd/

8TB "Archiving" drives (5400rpm supposed "low performance" yet strangely still capable of 150MB/s average RW and maximum sustained 190MB/s read speed) for $260. Sweet Jumping Jehoshaphat. That's Shocked I want two! Sadly that's US price, the EU price is the predictable - and if I ruled the world, punishable by death - direct conversion; €260.

.... although, Seagate
