We don't have any numbers for either. That 750k must come from vgchartz or something
I doubt either of them sold a crapload, but I hope they sold enough. I played very little of Alien: Isolation (most definitely intend to come back to it) but The Evil Within would tremendously benefit from a second iteration of the game, improving the the good parts of the first..

Not really
It's like Pachter's predictions:

A 4.1 GB update was released.
EDIT: That's all?

Quote: |
Performance optimizations on Higher end GPU systems
Fix for "The Power of Three" achievement unlocking incorrectly after upgrading the same weapon three times
Count-based achievement progress persists when loading earlier saves for some achievements
|
EDIT: Perhaps DLC content too?
(4.1 GB download for various performance fixes and two achievement bugs?)

No DLC files, looks like each level has it's own resource file and those got replaced along with the texture package for one level so that's probably why it's a 4.1 GB download.

Quote: | just as i switch the game off after saying maybe i will try again after a patch it starts downloading a patch.
just for any other laptop gamers out there im using
i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-4700MQ (2.40GHz) 6MB
8 gig ram
GTX765m 2 gig GDDR5
pre patch on opening scene I was getting frame rates all over the place from 25-40 at 1366 x 768 resolution with shadows at Medium, MLAA and black bars disabled. Also had reflections and SAOO turned off. most of the game though I have been getting 30+ (30-45) (just started chapter 5 i think.
tried all sorts of settings and the graphic ones only make small differences to the frame rate for me. Resolution lower than 1366 x 768 doesnt really improve much but higher starts to drop it.
Patch is down so gonna have a quick test of start area again and will get back to you all.
edit
OK thats a really good improvement.
at same setting on starting sequence I now get 37-50 fps. Upped frame rate to 900p and its 30-40 fps. Really good improvement.
Worse frame hit I have seen so far is Drs house in chapter 4. no idea why that tanks the frame rate. Anywhere tank it as bad or worse than that?
hoping I can now play at 30+ 900p |
Quote: | Getting much better performance after the patch. Now I get mostly 60 fps (with drops) in 1440p+SMAA, I used to get ~40-50 fps with 60 fps spikes when I looked at the floor . Also, stable 30fps at 4k. I have a 980. I don't know if my eyes are deceiving me, but seems like aliasing is worse in this patch, might be just bad memory on my part. |

Sadly the patch probably did nothing for SLI and Crossfire improvements so I guess if you were to disable SLI the framerate wouldn't change much.
(Not really sure if it's something with the game engine or something as a result of what they've changed with the engine.)

Edit: No difference whatsoever
Edit: It's more stable, but that's about it. The highest it gets to is 51FPS. Maybe it depends where you are? I'm right at the start of chapter 3 |
That's the most performance intensive chapter of the whole game.

I must say that the more I play the game, the more I like it.
Sure it's full of genre cliches, but the design of the levels is well made, and the moments it plays with your head are wonderful.
It's strange how hardened I have become as a gamer, I remember being genuinely frightened when playing Silent Hill 4 some ten years ago, but when I play this, I just notice the little gimmicks in design and think: "Cool, nice twist, and hey, this was kinda nice."
Some scenes are a bit repulsive, but that's it.
Sadly it's lacking in originality, story and character development (they are as bland as they could be), but the atmosphere is good. It's a neat "going insane in an abattoir" simulator.

I'm still downloading the update but here is another report:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=142763581&postcount=2056
Quote: | Better FPS is real.
I have a benchmark I've been doing over the first cutscene and then walking around the statue in the rain before looking up at the top of the hospital and then back down. I have a benchmark from October 29th and I got these results:
Avg: 73.884 - Min: 42
Just ran the same test.
Avg: 84.883 - Min: 63
This is running on a single 980 GTX with a 144 hz monitor (so 60 fps framelock which I'm using locks at 144). |
The average framerate is improved by ~15% then - in that particularly scene at least. It still remains one of the most demanding games though.
