This is starting to become ridiculous. Why not admit that they've had to make some compromise in terms of graphical fidelity, or else the game would run like shit?

We initially didn't have a new video scheduled for release at this time. The game team is finishing the game, Christmas is coming and January & February will be very busy, so there wasn't a video scheduled to be made. Then, we learned we were nominated for Most Anticipated Game at the VGAs (which we won. Woot!). So a decision was made to create a video to show at the VGAs (whether we won or lost). The video team did a fantastic job getting a video put together in the time-frame they had to make the show's deadline. However, it was not compressed to the correct rate and did not look as good on YouTube as it does in the actual game.
After seeing concerns from fans that the game has been downgraded (which it ABSOLUTELY HAS NOT), the team recompressed the video and it is now being uploaded to YouTube and other channels. You should be seeing the new video shortly. Hopefully, it will alleviate your worries about any false graphical downgrade rumors.

What would be the use of lying after releasing the trailer if you can't show something better? I guess one trailer can ruin a developer's rep in a second.

It's not one trailer though. They overhyped the shit of the game's visuals at the beginning and it was a downward spiral since then. There were a lot of criticism after the neogaf leak as well. And I guess people are getting paranoid after Watch Dogs. Let's not forget the first "in game" shots they released:

As long as they haven't compressed the gameplay as well into something more green pear-friendly, I'm not too concerned really. I could be okay even with the same visuals as The Witcher 2, just give me a proper sequel with no compromises design-wise, no silly sjw bullshits, lots of bouncing tits and I'm set.

Lol. it's a 3 minute thing.
Even to make it a 4k clip compressed for youtube (using the original export  )
and their beefy system + the beefy internets in poland ... the trailer should have been reupped 4 days before the video game awards. especially after they have watched it and their pr / GK company were ok with what was delivered. 
I haven't seen the gaf yet, but it does seem like a spin many idiot gamers would believe

What's the use of lying for a year before release? What's the point of lying after releasing a new trailer showing a hideous ugly mess of a game and then claiming it was "YT Compression®"?
I'm with ixi, as long as they produce the same sort of visuals as TW2 then I'm fine, but I'll still call out pre-release "vertical slice, lololol" downgrade shenanigans as any self-respecting PC gamer should do rather than just swallowing everything day after day.

Well there is one good thing if it looks like it did... then it means I can run it. 
But you selfish buggers don't care about that right.  
I'll see when the new vid is up, I bet this was just a gigantic fuck up with doing a rushed job. But it's better to just blame it mostly on yuuwtuuwb than being completely honest.
Edit: If only she had at least one water bottle, now it just looks retarded. Or are you colour blind?

Performance != visual quality.
The game doesn't LOOK better on Windows 8. Same way YT Compression® didn't magically lower texture quality, strip scene lighting and make everything else look overall shitty compared to any previously shown footage.

As for the trailer there are some really ugly textures in some places. But thats maybe because the trailer was rushed and we can consider it bugs. As was said on the oficiall forums. We will see.
