I also jumped on 8.1 bandwagon and would recommend to backup your stuff from C: and do a clean install. The whole thing took me 20 minutes installing from a flash drive!

Took me an hour to update from Win 8 but I got massive amounts of stuff installed and most of the time was taken updating all settings and stuff. Doing a clean install is fun but all the time you lose reinstalling everything is many times the time you would save.
Win8 is extremely solid too - I used to have to reinstall Windows once a year at the very least back when I had WinXp due to registry causing Windows to slow down and to break programs. Windows Vista was already a massive improvement but Windows 8 is easily the most solid of all, requiring no reinstalls for ANY of my family members since its release and their SSDs make it fly like lightning.

Yup, the clean install took about 20m from DVD. Setting up apps and settings took me another couple hours, but it was a minute amount of time compared to the hell I went through trying to fix the win7>win8 upgrade, which caused so many issues. Fuck it. Lesson (re)learned. Don't upgrade.

Ha, no wonder it's not working, saw maybe 5-10 people posting their AMD while all others posted their Intel up thrice.

Seeing as we have been talking about these issues (installing\upgrading OS and shit) I was wondering what soft you lot use to backup your OS+apps partition?
I use acronis true image but maybe there is something better.

FML, so i was slaying stuff while my game kept crashing in every fight all of the sudden... WTF
The only other save i had was like 15 hours back.
It all happened since i got a new staff from a search party from the war table, can't remember the name but it had 106 dps which was double of the dps i had. And yep i was right.
The game crashed only when i use this weapon.....
Ah well... at least my savegame isn't corrupted.

For me it always saves over the last slot. Don't know why. I got 35 hours clocked and i had like 2 savegames.
I'm saving manually now on new slots because i will go mental if i corrupt the save and have to start over.

I assume it is the staff of Tylda Bright-Axe? You get the war table operation by claiming all the landmarks in the Hinterlands. Odd, I used that staff for a while on my Inquisitor with no problems.

Yes ,Tyrdda's staff, i just checked. Seems you can get a axe or staff depending on your main class.
I put it on the other mage in my party with no problems. But when i (electric mage) equip it, the first fight i do it just crashes. I think it has something to do with that the spells i use change to fire damage.

I've got Tyrdda's Staff but it has no slots, so even though the overall DPS is higher than my other 65dps staffs, its stats and bonuses are significantly lower .. so I just don't use it. Crafted 65dps staffs are insane. I've made 3 of the same, each with a specific element; Fire, Shock, Ice.

You sure? It was also a mage staff in my 2H warrior playthrough.

You should go up north. Remember all the bears in the north west of the Hinterlands? In the north end of Emerald Graves it's bears and giants.

@DCB
Not really sure, thought i saw it mentioned somewhere when i was looking for my problem. So i figured you get a different weapon depending on your class.
Btw, anyone else having a hard time looting ghoul's beard? I need to position myself for 5 minutes each time i wanna pick some up. So annoying

For anyone experiencing crashes or freezes setting the display option to Borderless Window will make the game more stable.

@sabin1981
I've found archmage staff schematic
http://dragonage3.wiki.fextralife.com/Archmage+Staff+Schematic
Now I have this staff:
It probably is not the best out there for a lvl 16 character but it's what I could craft atm. I don't like farming for materials lol

Completed most of Emprise De Lion, only one part left after I restored a bridge to get access to the last part of the map but that's going to be a challenge.
Spoiler: |
Most regions have one high dragon boss but here there's three of them throughout this previously unavailable area so tackling that will be difficult though getting more dragon quality metal, cloth and leather will be useful.)
Wonder if I can draw them all together and have the biggest fight ever.
