No it wasn't, which is precisely why it is different from DA2 and Inquisition. Origins was a PC exclusive that only got an out-of-house console port at the last minute after EA bought the company. It's why the PC version was delayed almost a full year (1st qtr 2009 to November) - EA wanted a simultaneous release for marketing purposes.

By your definition, every game where you need to figure out how to beat a boss is a tactical game.

It wasn't a consolised version of BG, it was an improved version of NWN. In that light, it was certainly a step up.

And playing Origins with a controller? Come on.

with da2's spawning enemies in the middle of a battle, there was never any proper tactics that could be applied.

Yes, unlike Dragon Age: Origins, where you needed comlplex tactics, like:
-CC
-Nuke mages asap
-> win
+ bosses were all tank & spank, except for the high dragon, and flemeth, where you needed to position your tank.

I never understood why people think, that DA:O was tactical, but DA:2 was not.

short answer: nostalgia goggles. played DA:O inside out and it was never overly complex or hard. final boss was a joke.

This. Only fight you NEEDED the tactical camera on DA: O, even on the highest difficulty, was that "meat bag" boss in that Orzammar DLC (the one that summons a ton of skeletons and hits like a truck). Everything else is a joke.

DA:O on nightmare was a bitch, ff ON and everything. What are you guys talking about.

Although things got a whole lot better with two characters insta-creating potions for me all the time, stocking up shitloads of mats. I'm going to say I'm not a good Dragon Age player, and that the potion crafting got me through it on that difficulty.

I absolutely agree that the last boss was the least of my problems in DA:O.

No, there's a few tiers of them.

They're there to give you an extra Power point option if you need extras for War Table operations. When they started getting expensive in terms of mats I stopped doing those, and saved my shit to not limit my future crafting options. Usually doing the first tier in every area worked out, and I knew they were there if I needed more points, but I didn't, I just did side-content and other stuff mostly instead to gain the power/influence.

Broodmother! Smile
On my first playthrough couple of years back, i didn't know in which order to do the zones, so i went to Deep Roads first, without healer. It was a nightmare, even on normal.

yea i luckily did orzammar and the deep roads last, so i didnt have many problems with that even on hard.
but damn if orzammar isnt one of the most memorable locations of the past decade of gaming.
the design, atmosphere, background music, and i was just playing that part around christmas time while it was snowing outside heavily and temperatures were below 0, made it extra cozy in-game Very Happy

I've played some couple hours more the PS3 version, understood that the controller is a requirement for this one and I'm thinking of buying it too, because I can't really stand the very low res and pop-up of the PS3 version. My first impressions were largely negative but I admit I had some fun when I've played it more. Still it's just an action game with rpg elements and cheesy-stupid dialogues.

I thought the combat, controls and UI sucked hard for the first 10-15 hours. Then I adjusted aka got used to it, and after a while I felt okay with the combat. The tactical mode is completely useless. I made use of the ability to pause and do small changes here and there but I never used the top down. The camera doesn't zoom far enough out to get a proper overview either which is terrible. I think it was a matter of me going into it with set expectations and having to come to terms with how the game played and what the game is compared to what I hoped it'd be. The game is definitely not flawless, god no, but it could have been so much worse, let's not forget.

The romance thing is something you do to yourself, really. All the videos and shit I've seen of people going cringe of the romance in this game.

You are the reason it is happening. You can easily skip everything by simply not clicking the BIG ASS HEART ICON dialogue option when talking to characters. Every player who experienced weirdness in that regard brought it on themselves by constantly flirting with NPCs. BioWare added the option. You can choose not to. There are so many other real problems with the game critics could adress instead.

I didn't romance anyone and I didn't really feel those über weird moments, except maybe once or twice but that's to be expected in an RPG signed off by BioWare.

If you plan on using tactical mode then I suggest that you get cheatengine "mod" that makes it more convenient.

You can use the tactical view in Inquisition while paused to check the info you've gathered on the enemy. Their resistances and such. Its a tedious way to get that info.

There's various tiers but they are infinite, eventually you will be back to getting mineral samples and other small stuff as they repeat forever.

It's not listed anywhere. Their portraits change during the selection screen, but I don't know if that's based on their approval or if you've completed their personal quest.

Found another exploitable chest for an infinite supply of Fade-Touched Obsidian if anyone wants. It's just to the east of where you kill the Fereldan Frostback in the Hinterlands:

There's a broken bridge you need a mage to rebuild (energize) that leads to a dock. There's a boat moored on the far side that has a couple of lootable barrels/crates. The seaward end one has the obsidian. Just make sure you don't completely loot everything if you plan to keep coming back for more.
