Paul Greengrass is looking to bring George Orwell's classic dystopian novel 1984 back to the big screen.
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the British director is taking charge of the Sony Pictures project, with Scott Rudin on board to produce with Gina Rosenblum. James Graham, who wrote the book for the Finding Neverland musical, will take on writing duties. With the project still in its early stages, no actors have yet been cast. Deadline first reported the news.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"
A real proper film of this would be good to have.
But if it were to be anywhere near believable it would need to be rewritten from a modern perspective.
And then it would seem too fantastical because people won't believe half the shit that is ACTUALLY going on in our actual real world, today.
The project needs a talented writer or group of writers to pull it off and I have zero faith in hollywood to get it right.
Why re-make this when we're all already living 1984 now? Almost all of 1984's predictions have basically come true BUT WORSE as now tech has superseded even Orwell's vision. Facking scary..

Well at least your smart TV doesn't force you to work out and give orders... yet.
are you sure?
the news is doing the same shit all the time
giving you the impression you have something of value
and threatening you that it's going away unless you do what they say, usually politically
*checks Greengrass' imdb*
He's only done US propaganda films for the past 10 years.
I see this turning out like what they did with the Prisoner remake series - a complete ideological inversion.
The message of the film will be that big brother is good for you.
Yeah, I got the same impression.. As far as I remember, even Fox News ranted about the movie going against the government's agenda
(But then again, the fauxes always find something to complain about, so that's not saying much).
i liked captain phillips, so as much as i dilike the rest of the films hes done, cap' gives him one single credit with me, so ill give this a chance to not suck.
Current administration agenda changes every few years, but the underlying establishment stays the same.
His consistent sucking up to the idealistic "we're awesome" narrative really makes it impossible for me to see how he could do justice to 1984.
Then again, a really properly made 1984 would be unmarketable.
Someone like Oliver Stone could do it but it would be seen as a hit piece. (and partially it would be, since that's what he does)
It could be made on balance though.
If I had my pick, I would probably give it to Peter Watkins.
Or maybe David Fincher.
Oo, a netflix miniseries.. that would be great.
Yeah I seen the film and it just doesn't do the book justice, I don't think you can understand the struggles and feel the emotions conveyed in the book if it's whittled down to a 2hr film, it definitely need to be a series.
