Got pretty much everything on low/OFF settings. I think I kept textures on High actually. Even if he could run it, it'd run poorly, I doubt he'd enjoy it like that.

The thing is I could beat most enemies that were ~2-3 levels higher than me.That's why I was more or less confident I could close dat rift just fine  However, it was the first time I encountered these despair demons.

Yes, it is linear in a way that makes sense. In a game some enemies should be capable of tearing you apart.
In some areas you actually have to go do something else, then come back when you're a higher level in order to tackle certain enemies/Rifts.

When I started approaching it as an action-slash'n'mash game I liked it more. I've not used tactical view for anything yet (Hard difficulty), I've used pause a few times though to use potions and skills by switching to party members for a sec.
Today I've only tried the multiplayer mini-game out.

Yeah it's probably the one.

I never used mouse to click on it , however, just trying to hold F while standing under the rift didn't always work

Bioware should get some kind of "special" award as they managed to make so-called "tactical" mode work worse with mouse/kb than with a controller. Especially in third game in series
