Games are becoming less refined. What do we do? Stop pre-ordering games, especially from companies who have a history of shipping out unfinished games. If we didn't all buy the games Day 1 and waited for the reviews to come out, why would companies ship broken games? If everyone knew how bad BF4 multiplayer issues were going to be why would anyone buy it? I know I wouldn't have, and you wouldn't have either. Companies are all about profit, and the sooner the profit comes in the better. Just wait and see if the game runs clean, then buy it. You'll miss out on a few days of gameplay, instead of getting ripped off. Most of us can't just throw 60$ out the window, so let's stop doing that.
No more preordering, and no more buying season passes before the game comes out.
TL;DR Stop preordering games so we stop getting ripped off as gamers.
Fuck you. I will continue to buy and preorder games, buying season passes even before the game is out, if I know I'm going to enjoy it.
Then there are hurpadurpas who say "But WHYYYYY do you preorder, copies are not going to run out!"
Are you fucking slow? I'm not preordering digitally because I'm afraid the copies are going to run out you dumb shit, I'm preordering because I WOULD BUY IT DAY-ONE ANYWAY, but I can also get a discount/another game as a gift/free DLC.
Other retards go "buuuuuut you have to wait for the reviews to come out! How do you know the game is good?"
I don't think I even need to comment on this, there are fuckers that actually believe that Polygon is a trustworthy news source
I watch a TON of gameplay before I preorder a game that is not AC or other well-known brand like GTA. That's how I know if I'm going to enjoy it or not. For each announced game you can find AT LEAST an hour of pure gameplay footage before release. That's enough for me. It's not enough for you? Fair enough, don't buy the game, don't tell me what to do.
Now as to the price. The average cinema ticket here is 20 PLN, that's roughly 6 USD. Let's be generous and assume that an average movie lasts 2 hours. For 60 dollars I get an average of 20 hours of content. For the same price, and sometimes even lower (50 USD and even less for indie stuff or not an AAA title) it can get into HUNDREDS. I would definitely preorder Wasteland 2 or Divinity had I not gotten them on Kickstarter, for a fucking 15 dollars at that, because I know the VALUE is fucking there.
I am not even counting the Steam/GMG sales.
Same with Assassin's Creed. While the amount of content might be superflous with the insane amount of collectibles, I enjoy those kind of games, I enjoy climbing around and jumping into haystacks. Don't tell me "don't preorder Ubisoft games, hurr durr". I understand that most people here don't enjoy AC as much as I do, and that's fine- but don't fucking tell me I'm literally Hitler and I'm causing the devs to "rip people off" by preordering stuff.
Every single title I have preordered I have never been disappointed with.
Do some fucking research. Yes, publishers are shady and some PR videos are misleading at best, but stop acting like you are completely defenseless against it all. It's extremely easy to not get disappointed by things when you actually put some effort in researching it beforehand.
Just yesterday a top post on /r/games said that AC: Unity marketing was misleading and caused the guy to buy the game because he thought the game has 4 separate protagonists Like seriously, WHAT THE FUCK. If you had taken a fucking MINUTE to watch one trailer you would know that's not the case. How is Ubisoft to blame for your stupidity?

I'm kind of on the same side as TwatBiscuit and Kenny; this ridiculously forced culture of preordering is highly damaging. Publishers take your money before any product is provided, only to then provide a fundamentally broken or otherwise lacklustre product. Especially when it's from a company with a history of screwing its customers.
The sense of forcing. I think this fairly obvious with pre order bonuses. Who gives a shit about a few items, or running pants etc, but missions and such is a whole other thing.
Really? So if the game didn't have a 10-minute shitty mission (like all pre-order missions in AC) you would not preorder?
I preorder games I would buy day-one anyway, and the shitty DLC is just a bonus- it's OK that I got it, but if I didn't receive anyway for preordering I would have bought it anyway.
What do you mean "forced"? Who forces you to preorder?
I thought that was fairly obvious? It's a common tactic for publishers to rip out content and lock it behind "preorder only!" stipulations, who then force you to pay later if you didn't preorder. It's not just some "shitty mission", it's sometimes enormous parts of a game like the Nostromo DLC for Alien Isolation, or Gauge character in BL2.
Pre-order --> Hype for weeks --> shitty IGN review makes you regret purchase --> Game actually turns out to be shit -- > You lose money.
Pre-order --> Hype for weeks --> shitty IGN review makes you regret purchase --> Game actually turns out to be great --> Worth buying after all, but you still lose money.
Ignore Pre-hurdur --> Hype for weeks --> shitty IGN review makes you glad you were right --> Game actually turns out to be shit --> 3DM version will kill some time time, you lose no money.
Ignore Pre-hurdur --> Hype for weeks --> shitty IGN review makes you glad you were right --> Game actually turns out to be great --> 3DM version plays nicely, and you enjoy, you lose no money.
Now there is Denuvo, so the gamble just got even tougher

An entire fucking CHARACTER, dude.
I agree, using a character as a preorder bonus for a game like Borderlands is beyond scummy- but that's fine- if they pull shit like that, don't buy it from them, yarr it after release or buy it down the line for 20% of the price.
HOWEVER!
You have to accept the fact that *most* of their playerbase are going to preorder the game anyway, they don't care about it one way or another.
/r/games has just over 500,000 subscribers. Let's say that 250,000 of those care about Borderlands and want to buy it. A new thread appears with a scummy tactic of offering a character as a preorder DLC.
The situation caused a huge uproar. Let's say that 50% decided that they won't buy the game.
Don't say "don't preorder video games". That's still 125,000 customers that will buy it day one. Internet sites like reddit or especially this forum is MINISCULE compared to the overall playerbase. The fact that you won't buy it won't change a thing.
The whole thing will change when the random derps that buy CoD every year will stop preordering the game because of a cool weapon, not when "consumer activists" like TotalTwat or Jim SJWing will post a shitty video on YouTube about it.
I agree that the only way change is going to happen is when GAMERS stop preordering, rather than the next e-Activist posts a video in order to elicit clicks from people. Still, it takes us to make a change and right now? As you say, people just don't care. They'll preorder anyhow and then, if the game turns out bad, oh well.
Also you're defending the abuse of consumers with trinkets and bonuses that come out later for free or for small price.
Thnx - All Pubs
You're justifying a price of a game by the price of a ticket of a movie.
Thnx - EA CEO
It's psychological just like hats and crates and insta buys and kill streaks. It's a marketing campaign. We all know, gamers, consumers, publishers that a game will drop in price no more than 3 months after release. What do they do to make you buy it at full price within the 3 months? Buy reviews, create embargos for release day, offer preorder bonuses.
But still main point.
TB isn't addressing you; someone who would've loved Alien CM because he preordered it, or someone who's defending unity because it's still a good game underneath all the mess. TB is adressing the consumer that gets ripped off by the publishers who delay embargos, who buy reviews, who cheat previews, who lie to the press, who lie to the fans and who treat this frankly as the business it is.

Abuse of customers Please, report it to the police if you feel "abused". It's almost as fucking stupid as my soggy knee on the internet. It's a fucking video game. You don't like the customer practices of a certain publisher, don't fucking buy the game.

Why is it not a valid comparison? Both are types of entertainment, one is interactive, the other is not, we may laugh at the 4 hour CoD campaign every year, but even that is longer than 99% of the movies, I'm not even counting the MP part which can amount to hundreds of hours.

If you're an idiot that gets dragged into the hype machine because Ubisoft offers you a pair of pants or Bethesda offers you a TF2 hat, then you're an idiot and you deserve whatever happens to you.

Huh? How did you come to that conclusion? That's what I said:

I never even considered buying Aliens for a second.

Are you going to make a thread in a couple of years saying people shouldn't tell others not to pay micro-transactions in games they already bought?
I have a feeling we'll be seeing that kind of a thread from you in a couple of years.
rly... if they fall for it? you get hyped for every single iteration of assassins creed.
Like. Even the one that was critically shamed by fans you defended to high heavens until you gave in and agreed that it was shit.
Plx. You're still flaunting that unity banner. The game came out. The game is shit. ubisoft fucked consumers in the ass with sand paper cock and you're still promoting the game.
I'd call you a hypocrite but I'm sure you're enjoying the game tremendously because it's so good.
also one note... how i came to conclusion that you would've loved aliens CM?
becuz u sed dat all gaem u preorder u enjoy 1000% so thru dat logic if you had gone and preorderededeededededededed aliens CM you would've enjoyed it. No?
Also movie v. game price. Lol.
So, MMOS and CODS should cost hundreds of dollars?

I could create that thread right now, why do you care what hurpadurpas spend their money on, there are people buying TF2 hats for two thousand dollars.
i will preorder games when i'm properly protected by online commerce laws.
in almost any country's anything buyed online / distance have a 10 days money back guarantee no question asked by law.
well i got my $ back in 99% of cases, a few with charge backs, but not as easy as it should be. tickets, legal faxes, and so.

What a retarded statment I never "caved in". I'm maybe 1% of the board who actively hated ACB and meh'd AC2, the most beloved games in AC franchise. I liked AC3 a fuckton more than AC2/ACB, while most of people here consider it the worst of the franchise. The only game I truly love from Ezio saga is ACR, which most people considered a filler. From the beginning of time I say that ACIV:Black Flag is a horrible AC game, but a great pirate game. What the fuck is your problem? What the fuck does me liking Unity have to do with anything?
There are multiple people here who preorder every Total War game even though each and every one was bugged as shit on release. Don't see you laughing at them.

Seriously, what the fuck are you going on about? Did you play the game? Because the people here that did (or most of them anyway) admit that it's probably the best AC game so far, aside from technical issues.

Yes I do? I'm 51 hours in so far and I love it. So what?

Read what I wrote again, try comprehending it this time, kthxbye.

Holy shit, you definitely convinced me with that argument!
Quote:

.......
You are aware you are paying a fucking monthly subscription for an MMO, right?
What would happen if everyone suddenly refused to pre-order any game or pay for any DLC, everyone. We would get a full game on release day with no missing content. That is the problem people have with this pre-order and DLC strategy that companies have and that is why people are against pre-ordering.
Ryzen 5 5600, ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING WIFI II, Corsair Vengeance RGB RT 32GB 3600MHz C16, MSI RTX 5070 Ti Ventus 3X OC , Corsair RMx Series RM750x. AOC AGON AG324UX - 4K 144Hz 1ms
Just pre-ordering a game is one thing, but my favorites are the retards that keep pre-ordering even after getting burned with broken shit (pretty much everyone that will pre-hurrdurr the next AC, BF, CoD, dareIsay The Witcher 3(TW2 had some launch issues, no?), Diablo 4, SimCity next, any game that came out and was a slap int the face of the audience in how falsely advertised it was, ran poorly or was clearly broken). And the people buying this shit will NEVER ever learn.
But even when the developers do a good job, which is even rarer nowadays I still think that people shouldn't pre-order, unless you can somehow get it very very cheap (thanks for W_D and AC4 ubishit ). Aside from that, do you *really* need the crapssassins pants of powa, or aiden's cap of solid stool +1, or liam neesons plasma pistol of awesome? No, you fucking don't.
I am DONE pre-hurrdurring games.

ummm, not every mmo. you know that right?
Umm cod / mmo = movie v game price argument.
Which based on your statement of content works 100%
Thanx.
You said you preoder games you know you gonna love.
So if you preorder gayvilla. Are you not gonna love it?
Saying comprehend this and comprehend that is lol.
If you can't continue with your point. You made it. Live with it.
If you preordered aliens CM you have assured me you would love it.
Regardless of how you feel about it now. Or then. Or whenever.
You only preorder games you love. So. DEAL. you made that statement.
I lolled at it. Thanx.
Aside technical issues,
Thanks. Aliens CM is also a fantastic game aside technical issues as well, right?
I mean it plays nice. It has good mechanics. And good atmos. At least I liked those parts.
We aren't arguing total war. we are arguing preorders. Which is anti-consumer. You're defending it because if you preroder something you know it's good. So many people are like you. so TB doesn't know what he's talking about. He's dummy. lolol TB you so silly. Right?
No. STFU.
You are on the stance that it's your money, you can do whatever you want with it.
Good. Stay with it. TB doesn't want gamers who don't make as much as you to not be robbed by thieving, scumming, scheming, conniving publishers who use preorders as a way to get as much money as they can FAST. And yes it does happen. And yes it is common. and yes STFU. Your money your opinion. My money my opinion. You gonna argue my opinion? You're gonna lose.
That's it. The very fact that you took it personally because reasons is very telling.
You do whatever you want. Support idiotic anti-consumer practices because it's your money you're wasting. Good. Those of us who got fucked. Those of us who got raped. Those of us who had to suck the dick of the publisher and thank them for the shitty product we paid that extra 10 dollars for. yeah, you were never cheated by the publishers because you will defend poorly made products with shit writing simply because 'aside technical issues'.
They made their money. maybe the next AC game will be 'aside the story'.
Srsly. I love you.
To you it's my money my problems.
To TB it's it's your money be careful.
To me it's i has fast internet wuts preorder lololol.
With kane and lynch, shopto shipped the game 2 weeks before release because the reviews broke and revealed what a pile of shit the game was, so nobody had a chance to fucking cancel
