You know what's worse? Lowering your standards as a gamer to find more games to play. |
True lowering standards isn't a good thing, but I'd rather be playing "something" as opposed to "nothing" with regards to upcoming releases if the DRM situation expands, evolves and lingers on.

@EternalBlueScreen Just need to find more hobbies and do other stuff. I pretty much gave up on gaming, even if I do download 45GB shits from time to time, only to shit delete them after 10 minutes.
@Kein It depends on the method the security is circumvented. You are speaking of a pure crack, where as I don't think anyone other than boundle care if a loader or a sandbox is created to fool the security mechanism. And then, as long as their inner workings remain the same, the circumvention will work with little modifications.
I mean, people even created a value proxy to "crack" Ubisoft DRM for AC2.

I hate supporting DRM that MIGHT be disruptive to the consumer experience.
BUT if the only way to play the best bioware game since origins (not a big ME fan) is to pay £25 odd quid. then i'll do it.
EA may suck, but from the sounds of things, the devs who made this game did a good job, and so while I may be supporting an evil corporation and shady DRM, im also supporting talented developers, so that has some merit, and makes the taste a little less bitter.
I might change my tune in a week when i get locked out of my game due to server and origin problems, but let's see.

Those were the days, I remember how it unlocked step by step |
Yep, going every few hours to cs.rin.ru to get the most uptodate value database.

I'm with Leo on this one. Simply find other stuff/work to do, then do the games, that really interest you.
After the shit BioWare pulled off with their past couple of games, I'm not paying for this shit. And no, I just don't believe the reviews, sorry. This is EXACTLY how reviews for DA2 read ...

You'd think they'd be more concerned with Freddie Prinze Jr's sacrilege of their sacred cow.

If it makes the game slower and more buggy that's one thing but if it fucks with the boot process and Windows itself that's a whole nother thing. |
the team that developed denuvo is responsible for securom and various sony rootkits labeled as drm. personally i would not support them, not matter how different and safe denuvo is. |
Okay well that's not much specific information. Sure they're slimy and the whole point of DRM is highly questionable of course. I just don't know what Denuvo does besides some sort of encryption while running but it doesn't seem to alter the boot process as does the old rootkit drm crap. I will cancel my preorder if I find it's doing more than I am comfortable with.
edit: I already have a separate windows install for Origin so it's already sandboxed.. |
Don't quote me on this, but from what I understand it's basically a very advanced code obfuscation tool. It allows devs to mark specific points in the executable (the ones where license checks are performed) that are then scrambled and rewritten at machine code level by replacing simple instructions with complicated subroutines that do the same thing as the original instructions but in a much more convoluted way, making them hard to understand and even harder to crack.
If this is the truth (again, from info gathered on the web, since their website doesn't give any description of what it does exactly) the good news is that it's not "intrusive" (no drivers/rootkits/etc). Or it might be bad news if you wanted to start a FUD campaign, depends on your point of view I guess.
Anyway, all this panic about "uncrackable, we're fucking then" is quite hilarious. Although I admit I'd like to play this for free without having to get the shitty x360 version.

Did the government in India block the game or did EA just make a choice not to sell it there?
