Quote:
Ex-New Line Cinema founders Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne have moved on to become producers and they've just set up their first project. The two will produce an adaptation of Isaac Asimov's Foundation, an epic sci-fi story that was first published in 1951. Asimov actually wrote a complete series of Foundation books, however Shaye and Lynne only plan to adapt the first book for now and if successful, potentially finish off a trilogy like they did with Lord of the Rings. The complexity and scope of the story has been problematic for other producers, however these two are confident that they'll put something worthy together. Shaye explains "this is not a script you can knock out in six months." Certainly true!

FULL STORY

Wow this could be as big as Lord of the Rings...if they pull it off that is.
Read The Foundation series (and there is more then 3 books) many times over. If done properly this could be truly epic!.

Visually it will be a spectacle but there is no way they could translate each of those epic tomes into a film that captures the story in its intricacy. If they stay faithful to the books then they will lose most of their audience who will be expecting a flash-bang adventure. And to be honest, fans of the books shouldn't expect an exact translation because it's a different medium.

I would imagine something like "I Robot", That was WAY altered (compared to the novel) in order to appeal to a bigger audience. But as you said, if they stay to true to the books, I guess it could turn out as a snooze feast for most ppl.

Please, leave his works in the books - the last time anyone filmed a movie it became "I Robot"... a big freakshow of product placements (even the title ffs).

I also think fisk should be unbanned.

Good to see HBO finally doing sci-fi projects, I've been anticipating this for a while now
Westworld and Foundation, so it begins! Good chance to finally get some hard sci-fi again (I haven't seen Interstellar yet)
Would also be nice to see something from a non-Nolan, though, they can't be the only ones. What are the Stargate guys doing? Some crappy and cheap network shows probably.

wow are you fucking kidding me! This is my favorite book/series (the first 3 anyway) of all time.
Sheeeet this could be one of the best sci fi shows ever if they do it right. If they try to cram in random laser explosions and sexy spacer woman everywhere I will be salty as fuck.
I'm so glad sci-fi is on the comeback these past few years. Looked dead for a good while

Awesome. Between Foundation and Bad Robot's new Westworld series, HBO is starting to look interesting to me.
