Sorry, I forgot about ZIP.. haha! Incorrectly said RAR was the #1 most used but that's still held by ZIP - edited my previous post.

i still not understand why torrent/trackers are forcing people to upload in pieces, instead an extracted iso.

With one file ( iso ) and one seeder ( being the one who uploaded the iso ) you'll have to wait an enormous amount of time for it to get completed, even if its from the seedbox. When hundreds of leechers jump on 1 seeder, the seeders speed is divided to all the leechers.
Rard files are easier to get as the files are smaller, leechers get them faster and are distributed between them.
Leechers share the rarfiles(pieces) between them with upload/download.

As for 7zip have installed, but never used it Embarassed

this is not how the .torrent seeders/leechers system works.
speed and completion time should be the same in both cases 40x1000MB files or 1x40GB file.
read about "piece size" when creating a torrent. unless i'm remembering wrong Smile.

It's annoying when I am forced to download and install 7zip because someone has used it to compress something with whatever stupid settings and Winrar can't extract it. People that do that should be banned from using the internet.

WinRAR handles 7z files just fine after that feature was added a couple of iterations ago.

Not always, sometimes WinRAR fails on some 7z archives - and especially 7z split archives, though you can copy/b those manually so WinRAR can handle them.

Winrar 5.11 vs 7zip 9.20

5.35gb iso

winrar

used high preset and .rar

pack 05:34 min size after compression with high 5.35gb
unpack 0:55 sec

7zip

used ultra preset and .7z
pack 20:21 size after compression with ultra 5.40gb
unpack 5:50 min

i prefer winrar, easy to use and faster as well

Stop using this proprietary deprecated software called winrar

7-zip is open source software and free as in freedom, available on all platforms and implements patent free compression algorithms that have better compression and are actually optimized for speed

stop using windows to play games, linux can do this for free lol wut

this probably doesn't belong in this section btw

Granted it's a 45 GB file, but it shouldn't be THAT slow, right?

So, at the end of the day, did it take more to download or more to extract? Very Happy

By my calculations 100Mbit internet should be slower by around 20 min. Laughing

It wasnt extracting so long fot me BUT
I have wd 1tb ezex. Which is one of faster 1tb drives... and it is being offloaded by and ssd as my system drive. So ssd is doing all apps and system stuff, so my 1tb drive is free of any load.
Also, when download finished, I've paused uploading because it was like 8mb/s, so the disk would only take care of the winrar stuff. And it unpaced in few minutes. Dont remember how much. about 10 I think
